Got my Henry Back after exploding it!

Post by Horsman43 » Thu Feb 15, 2024 8:45 pm

In an earlier post k shared that I killed my brand new 45-70 m. Totally my fult and after a lot of work I figured out how I did it.
In the end Henry went above and beyond fixed it for $245 dollars.

By the way when I mean exploded I exploded it. Barrel burst, handguard vaporized, magazine tube destroyed.

It came back today as good as new!

In fact I’m kind of thinking they gave me a new one. The old bolt which i did not pay to have replaced showed a bunch of ware marks after I worked the action to loosen it up.
This bold is blued like new when I opened it.
Also it was finicky on bullets and hated acme 300 grain bullets this one loves them.

The old but stock looks like this one. Honestly there was not a lot of figure in the original so I don’t know lol.

So thanks Henry for taking great care of me.
Customer for life now.

I'm hoping this post is like one of those flashback stories where you read about the resolution, and then a bit later, the story of what led up to the explosion is revealed.

Was it a case full of Bullseye? Who was holding it when it happened? Any injuries aside from the rifle?

OK, so to answer everyone’s questions, it was a squib load. It was my fault, and I’ve actually figured out what happened the powder bridged and I did not visually inspect it my fault I was holding the gun and it hurt really bad but no permanent damage. The hand guard was completely vaporized and the barrel burst

Well I'm glad you came away with nothing more than a good story and some wisdom gained through experience.

Wow, I’d say you were mighty lucky…..
I have a shooting buddy that got a piece of ‘Bore snake’ lodged in his Beretta O/U lower barrel.
He touched one off, and the barrel burst….the hand guard shattered and almost ripped off his thumb.
One can’t be too careful!

I’m sorry about your friend, I’m very blessed to have nothing hurt but my pride.

Honestly $245 for repairs was cheap to make me a better reloader and safer, all things considering.
