Henry's -LONG RANGER- 308 Win Rifle

I don't need this rifle....but then again....I didn't need my coffee and here I am drinking it this beautiful sunny morning. Sure would like to slide one of these rifles past the wife and into my gun safe. Maybe....she will not notice (unlikely). My Cabela's has one in stock and if I listen real close at times....I think it's calling for me to come and pick it up. Maybe I can go and buy it and ask for forgiveness afterwards (that's just asking for the deer in the head lights look).

I better muster up a back-up plan....just encase this blows back in my face...!!! I think....scratch that....I know she would like a Victoria Secret's gift card...!!! Think....I'll let her have her cake and eat it too...!!! She's probably....gonna need a pair or two of new shoes....!!!

I like your thinking but you are still an amateur. Us professional rifle hoarders have what we call "critical mass". I could buy ten more rifles and my wife would never notice. If I brought a new Long Ranger home I would just refer to it as "that old thing".

My wife supports my gun purchases most all the time. I am fortunate having her as my friendly and supportive partner. I think that is partly because I just plain 'ole talk to her about what I'd like to do in stocking my gun cabinet before I do anything. Years ago when she could write and see better, she handled the checkbook (budget) far better than I've ever done. Since I took it over, I chat with her about our budget planning, needs, etc., each month. That's also because we're both now retired, and the fixed income warrants that approach.

She likes our communication. Like I said, almost always I get the "OK, fine" on my next gun purchase. From time-to-time, she might ask if I really do need another firearm. So I sip my double mocha coffee out of my Henry mug, smile as she and I finish our chat, and go back to the drawing board. It's all fun.

BTW, if she's right and the budget doesn't work for a gun purchase, I go along with that. Your opening sentence is true for me also: "I don't need this rifle...." or revolver, or knife, or whatever. It's just my retirement hobby and I can easily live without more added to the gun cabinet or knife case. I have my Henry SGC, and that keeps me very happy!

good luck with the Henry 308 indeed .... the first lever action rifle I bought with my own money was a 308 Browing BLR back in the mid/late 60's .... it is still one of my go-to rifles ....I have no doubt that when its in your hands, you will lover your Long Ranger

I have handled BLR's and it is one of the reasons I want the Long Ranger. I ordered one in .223.

Well, I'll openly admit....I walk away from this deal. The rifle is nothing more than a bolt gun controlled by a lever and it looks just like the older model Browning BLR 308 Win. I really was hoping for more considering Henry's video's of the new rifles for 2016....when they show cased it. The barrel is nothing more than a sportsman hunting barrel in my opinion. The POI will change once the barrel heats up and will continue to change the POI as it even heats up more. The barrel in my opinion is rather thin. So....I swallowed my pride and walked away. Sale's man said I wasn't the first to walk away.

BTW, the .308 sporter barrel on my win M70 is thin also. After all, they're for the field, not the range.

Yeah, they usually ship in 3 to 5 boxes and I have to make that many trips from the truck to the basement. Then there is all the cardboard and packing material that gets separated from the shells. Then all the banging while tuning and new shiny shells sitting around. She has no clue....NOT...

I will say since the focus has shifted to guns. she has no idea. They take up way less space and are easy to conceal.
