Does anyone know the actual groove diameter of the BB 44mag rifles? Do they run big? Small? Just right at .429"?
Naturally I could slug my bore but then I have no way to accurately measure it which would just leave me where I am now.
Wanting to start shooting more cast in it and Matts offers more sizes now so I thought Id ask here if anyone has the knowledge I seek.
Spring has sprung. Get out and shoot your Henry

Re: BB groove diameters
When was the rifle made? I had one from 2018 I think it was and it had a large .4325 bore and it did not shoot well. Slugging is the way to know for sure. I believe .429 is what it should be.

This one has a new twist barrels on it. The rifle, with its original barrel, was one of the very first CC rifles of the Henry line so whenever they came out. 2015?? However, He ry replaced the barrel about 2 years ago with one of the 1:20 barrels, maybe not that long ago. So I should have stayed that from the get go. Sorry.

You asked this question 3 months ago but I just had a knee replacement last week and between icing and elevating I found enough time and mobility to slug my recent production X-model .44. I haven't done much load developement yet but was trying to get accuracy with the 240 gr. Nosler JHP. I would get a couple touching and then it would fling one a couple inches away at 50 yards. The Nosler box is marked .429" but they actually mic at just barely .428" and some maybe .0001" under that. My Henry slugs at .430". It's a touchy affair trying to mic a bullet from a 12 groove barrel but both calipers and mic agreed on the .430". XTP's mic at .429" and shot more consistent groups so I'm thinking a jacketed bullet over .002" under bore size might have been rattling down the barrel?? When I'm mobile enough to hit our outdoor range maybe I'll have a few more answers.
My pet .44 cast bullets are too long to function in this gun but I ran some 255 gr Lyman SWC GC's sized at .431" through it in .44 special brass over 14.5 gr of 2400 and accuracy was very good. I should have gone deer hunting with that load.
