True Glow Henry Big Boy sights

Post by DeathValleyMike » Fri Feb 03, 2023 12:19 pm

I’m outside now testing my Bb44 mag after the third attempt at a repair.
I like the look an nostalgia of the semi buckhorn sights a lot. My problem is that I shoot them well at 50 yards and absolutely suck at 100! (Picture below from before repair)

I purchased a Skinner and really like it , but the front sight didn’t work so I replaced the front.
At distances over 65 yards I have a similar issue that I had with the buckhorns. My 55 year old eyes just won’t get it done.😔

I just installed the True Glow fiber optic sights in orange and green and WOW! These things are awesome at longer ranges from simply looking through them!
I haven’t sent any lead with them, but I believe they will be the ticket!
I hate the look and vibe of fiber optics on this rifle, but nostalgia isn’t any good if you can’t hit what you’re aiming at.
This might be an answer for folks who need a sight with better contrast! They look great with my 20/210 vision and glasses looking at them with tired eyes!

That 65 yd group is awesome, and the 100 yd would certainly do the trick.
Nice shooting even before the repair.

Good shooting for open sights. Glad you found something that works for your eyes.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

I’m in the same boat with my tired 55 year old eyes with heavy astigmatism. I put the Skinner receiver mount peep sight on my Marlin with their solid brass “Bear Buster” front sight on my Marlin and it made a huge difference for me, but I’ve only shot it at 25 yards so far.
I was thinking about doing the rear sight replacement Skinner on my Big Boy carbine 45 Colt so that I don’t have to change the front, but now you have me thinking about the receiver mount with with the fiber optic front. It rides on my 4 wheeler with me for ranch work. I love the look of the original sights and used to be great with them, but aging is taking its toll.

Yeah, sadly, even scopes are becoming a booger. I wear trifocals and it they shift at all, I have trouble finding the sweet spot to get clear crosshairs in the scope. It’s problematic when sitting in my blind hunting with my head all bundled up. Oily skin tends to make the glasses want to slide down the nose a bit too and I end up having to xxxx my cheek weld to find the sweet spot in my glasses to get a clear sight picture in my rifle and crossbow scopes.
Sorry about the hijack!
