Where to keep the barrel thread protector on X model?
Well right there on the end of the mag tube!
Someone here had mentioned the idea of this storage spot to keep it handy and safe so I took a shot at it. A hot day outside so spent some hours
on the lathe using what materials I had laying around.
Drilled and tapped the end of the mag tube knob for a 1/4-20 stud and screwed that in place. Then turned up an aluminum bushing that the thread protector will just slide over without having to use the threads. The bushing is threaded onto the stud. Looked around for some black plastic material to make it out of but couldn't find any so settled on the aluminum with couple wraps of that strong Gorilla black tape since I wanted to keep shiny aluminum to a minimum.
Then turned up a aluminum retainer knob and added the knurls to it.
Also made up a .130 thick steel spacer for the suppressor to tighten up to since it was bottoming on the barrel threads and not the barrel shoulder and then gave it a quick blue job to blend in. I think I have some of that aluminum black solution and may but that on the new knob.
All set now and when this crazy 95+ F weather breaks will get down to my range to try this X model out!

Remember, it's not how many guns you have. It's how many bullets you have.

Great solution Forty. Your machinist skills shine as usual.
Us unskilled folks would just put it in our pocket and loose it before long. I'm and expert on doing things like that.
