Spring has sprung. Get out and shoot your Henry
I need a part made.
I need a part made.
After four years of looking for a lever action suppressor host, my son and I go bee boppin in the new Scheels in Missoula and find not only the Henry X chambered for 45LC for my son, I find my 44mag Henry X.
Since both rifles will be fired with and without a suppressor screwed on the end, I constantly worry about losing my thread protector.
I am hoping there is a machinist with a Henry X here because I have an Idea.
The knurled part of the mag tube has 1 pin holding to the tube making it pretty easy to remove. My idea is to have a machined part made that fits the mag tube correctly and has a portion of threads so I can take my thread protector off the barrel and then screw it on the threaded portion of the knurled knob. Basically, double the length of the knurled knob and thread half of it and knurl half of it.
What does the forum think about this?

Re: I need a part made.
I would suggest it to Henry. Next thing you know it will be offered in the catalog. Since it was your idea, maybe they'll send you a couple to beta test for ten or twenty years... You know, quality control and all.

You can tell a lot about the character of a man...

Good luck with your thread protector idea but I have to say that finding two X models in stock is awesome. Hmmmmmm Missoula is only about 6 hours away…maybe a road trip in my future.

Re: I need a part made.
Gentlemen, I appreciate the welcome to the forum and the helpful posts.
I have no access to a machine that would be capable of tooling this kind of part. Fortyshooter, if you figure out how to make this type of part, I would be happy to pay you for your time and knowledge. Let me know if you come up with something cool.
Hatchdog, I'm only 40 minutes away from the Missoula Scheels. I will keep an eye open for any more X models but I just read your info under your name. Sorry.
I understand that with the part I am imagining, there will be exposed threads to get mucked up and ruined. Hopefully the installed part is protected by the barrel itself. Hopefully.
I think the part would work the best being turned out of steel or any metal that would serve the purpose. I'm not an expert but I believe a 3D printed device just wouldn't stand up to the inevitable wear and tear.
I haven't contacted Henry Rifles yet, it will be interesting to hear what they have to say about this. If I get a reply, I will post it here.
Again, Thank you guys for the welcome and ideas. I think if folks see this part or something like it, Henry or whoever makes and markets the part can make a decent profit from it. Thinking about it a little more, the Henry X isn't the only threaded lever action type rifle on the matket.
I realize this seems to be a lot of work for an item that is made for a non-problem but I am sure I am not the only person who worries about losing the thread protecter.
Thank you again, JW

New ideas are what got us out of the caves and into warm dry homes. Some ideas work, and some don't, I'm excited to hear a thinking man put forth a interesting thought. I encourage you to push on with it.
