Henry Big Boy Classic H006 forearm removal

Guy's I had to shorten the LOP on my rear stock of my Henry 357/38 Classic Big Boy. So that is all done and while the rear butt plate has been replaced with a new curved brass butt plate that does not come over the top of the butt stock (looks really good and now has a 12.25" LOP) I also stripped the finish off and added a wax finish. Love the feel of the wood only warmth. Now I need to do the same with the front forearm stock. My question is to get the forearm off, is the barrel band and the pin in the front hanger all I need to remove to get the magazine tube out ? really no videos out there on this subject and nothing on Google either.

If you have taken the magazine tube out of your Big Boy Classic please chime in.

Thanks.

You have to pay attention to the direction you remove the front hanger. It only comes out on one side though I cannot remember which way it goes.

I just remembered how I removed the fore stock on my BBS when I first received it to make sure everything was lube properly so I didn't get any rust under the fore end. The information that I used from "Greybeard's" website. After removing the fore end cap you can use some type of nylon or other non marring wedge that you put between the barrel and the magazine tube then the part that the fore end cap screw to will fall out allowing the removal of the fore end.

There are some good pics of the process on the Greybeards forum.

Mine is a Big Boy Classic (Brass) No end cap. Everything I read it say's to remove the hanger. But I just need to slide the tune out, so I am thinking I can remove the pin. Is there a screw under the action that holds the tube onto the receiver ?

Ok,
Finally found out that it does have a magazine tube retainer screw under the trigger group. So I should be able to punch out the pin in the magazine tube hanger. Remove the trigger group and then remove the magazine tube retainer screw. Remove the barrel band screw and the barrel band. Remove the magazine tube and then the forearm should come right off.

If wrong about any of this please let me know.

Ok,
Well I feel stupid. I took the forearm off today and refinished it. Looks great. But I took the receiver apart first thinking I had to remove a screw and remove the magazine tube first to remove the forearm. Wrong, it was to easy. Just remove the barrel band and the forearm comes right off. It is not fitted between the magazine tube and barrel like a lot of them. It is held on by barrel band only.

Ok Guy's/Gal's

I have the biggest part of this rifle finished. I cut the rear stock down to a 12.25" LOP and refinished the front and rear stocks. Fits me perfect and very comfortable. Put a Marbles Bullseye sight on it which I have several. Love this very sturdy sight. Have a saddle ring coming and a Large Loop Lever. Sling Swivels also on the way. This is going to be a fantastic rifle.

Sorry for the terrible pictures, no time this weekend to take proper pictures.

Thanks guy's,
Received the Big Loop Lever today and the saddle ring. Can't wait to get them all installed and fixed up. Hopefully I will have the sling swivels before the weekend also. That would be a great Easter weekend project to finish her up. Then Range time afterwards.
