Understand. I call them carbines. Beans. Don’t really care about other pronunciation. Of course, I’m an old redneck. Lol
Either way...we all know what we're talkn' about. :D 8-)

It's rifle, Right? :D
So what makes it a car-bean? 20" or shorter.
Back in the day a lot of rifles wore 24" tubes,
so the 20" was considered the carbine.
Now most Are 20" so are they carbines the shorter 18" and 16" tubes?
I'm so confused...

as to the pronunciation, add me to the Car--bean list .... as to the barrel length, more a matter of how it looks than a set number of inches

The words' origins are French, so Europeans go with the bine pronunciation while most Americans go with the bean.
Actually, either is correct.

My 20” Model 94 (1911 manufactured) is considered a carbine for that era. Henry considers 20” a rifle, but 16.5” gets my BBSC the carbine designation, while everyone else calls a 16” barrel a “trapper”. It’s all rather subjective.

Oh, and in my mind, it’s bean.

U.S Army training films refer to an M1 car-bean. I’m not going to argue with the Drill Sargent.
