New Henry H010G hand grip movement

Post by 1942farmall » Tue Sep 14, 2021 3:54 pm

Howdy, New member and also new to Henry rifles.
Just purchased a H010G 45-70.
I've always been a Marlin guy but the sights and tube unloading ability sold me. Obviously no new Ruger Marlins being available yet helped.
I did notice that the hand guard has a very small amount of movement.
Haven't tightened anything yet.
Just curious if anybody has experienced this.
I've heard that over tightening barrel bands can affect accuracy.
Thanks for any feedback.
I really like the feel of this rifle.

Welcome!
I picked that exact rifle up last year and love it! No play in the wood though. Where is it loose? Front? Back? Can't tell?

Welcome to the forum glad you joined us. I think thats the case with most leverguns they loosen up with time. Ive tightened mine a little bit but if you go to tight you will also strip out the threads. I think some of the guys have bedded there forends to snug it up some. As far as accuracy goes I cant tell you without actually shooting one before and after.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

welcome to our forum ..... our 45-70 has proven to be one heck of a rifle .... I've found that using a drop of Purple Loctite when you snug its screws really helps keep things tight .... will yours be a hunter .. :?: .. will you be loading your own ammo .. :?: .. do hope you will be an active member who jumps into ongoing conversations; as well as, starting others of your own .... be sure to follow the link bellow and add your rifle to our community's total

Thanks for the responses guys.
I called Henry today and spoke with Dena.
Great gal.
I really don't want to send it in but will if I think I need to at some point.
The front is tight. The movement is minimal and in the back.
Only up and down and again only a slight bit.
Where I'm capable, removal looks like a PITA.
I'm pretty OCD with my firearms and don't want to damage or mar the two dovetails that need driven out to remove the forestock. I did check the floor model and it was the same.
Regardless, looking forward to building some loads this weekend and shooting it.
I already cast some 385 gr bullets that I powder coated last Saturday.
I'll report back.
Best.

My BBS in 357 also has a loose fore end I think I prefer to have it a little loose because it will not put stress on the barrel when it heats up.
