Question on first use

My friend has invited me to go shooting tomorrow with my BBX 357, which i got almost 2 weeks ago, and this will be my first time firing it.
My question is, is there anything i should do to get it ready before its first use? Any preparatory action i might not know about? Its also my first gun ever, so i'm new to all of it so far.

I always run a patch with a bore cleaner down the barrel before shooting a new firearm.

Welcome and good for you. I agree with Jake. It is best to clean it and inspect it before use. Then, clean and inspect after every usage. That way, you have an idea that the firearm is in working order. The owner manual offer steps on how to clean the rifle. Also, there are videos on Henry's site. Be sure to use gunsmith screwdrivers. They will help in not scratching the finish or messing up the screw heads. Above all, have fun!

Ditto on the hollow ground screwdrivers. Directions call for a good cleaning to get the packaging protective oils out before first use.
Don't forget to perform the Henry new rifle jig before shooting. Or is that just me?

If you have a bore snake in that caliber you could use that for a quick wipe out before shooting. But it’s best to pull the lever and bolt so that way you will have a better understanding of the working of your rifle. Very simple to do.

Since it's your first gun, when you remove the lever and pull out the bolt, be careful not to lose the ejector. Take note of its groove and the hole for its locating pin. My rifle is a .44 so I can use two fingers, one from the ejection port and one in from the rear to slip it back into the right position, hold it with the finger in the port then carefully insert the bolt. Let the rifle lie on its left side and gravity will help with the reassembly.
Now.. Get out there and shoot some boolits!
