Well guys ,I have 2 Carbines in 357 one is yet unfired. I want to take one of them and strip it down [Because] the wood is proud on the receiver and it bugs me

It will need to be sanded to bring it down to a good fit. Both of these have very proud wood along the full length of the Tang Is this wood issue the same on your BBS?

I will finish it in tru-oil and see what happens

Don't get me wrong yes its just cosmetic but it irritates me and wood that is ill-fitted will often tend to chip and split it not tended to I may be crazy but is this something you would do?

Let me start by saying I had to google 'proud wood' to learn the woodworking terminology. Looking back on my search I'm lucky I didn't get any raunchy results.

That aside, the third picture is very clear and obvious. I'll bring out my BBS and see if it is flush or off a little as well.

Have you brought your concerns to Henry's attention? They have excellent customer service.

No. I would call Henry and allow them to replace the wood. They will. There has never been a company as "proud" of their wood or rifles than HRAC. Give them a call before you do anything to fix it yourself.

I just sent an email but boys lets put this into perspective #1 I live in Canada! huge issue #2 Someone should have looked at this rifle before it gets shipped

I bought this rifle because it was the only rifle in the store in that configuration so I bought it .I love the Henry rifles all of the models I will soon have me a 223 in the long ranger

Let us know how you make out. Henry has been known to replace stocks and forearms without requiring the rifle to be shipped to them. Explain your dilemma to one of the CS reps. You'll find them to be very considerate.

So I agree whole-heartedly with CS_Shooter and all other Henry Folk above. I'd get a couple of good pictures attached to an email showing your wood issue and send to a Henry Tech Rep. Just tell them how challenging it is to ship from Canada, and request that they provide any replacement wood needed by sending it to you, and you'll change it out yourself. You'll be most pleased with how they try to help! Best, and we'll look forward to hearing about your good results from Henry CS.

I believe that is the way the newer Henrys are designed and supposed to be. It's not a defect. I say this because the edges of the proud area are rounded and finished down to the serial number area, not raw and crudely cut.

I imagine if you send a clear picture to Henry they would confirm this.

My new 45-70 AW is just like that and in fact it looks very neatly done to me.

My .357 BB steel looks much the same to me.

I guess we all see things differently ,first of all the pictures are poorly done. The wood rounded in to the tang is not the worst thing[ I am ok with that] but when the wood protrudes from the metal part of the receiver almost an 1/8 th of an inch is something different .I have almost 80 rifles 30 Marlins and we as the public chastised Remington and Rossi [me included for poor wood to metal fit]

When my thumb falls off the hammer it should be smooth not catching on the wood protruding from the receiver catching the inside of my thumb.

The old Winchester, Marlins were very slick because of good wood to metal fit , My BBS Carbine should be no different

Henry tends to agree with me ,I spoke to a couple of representatives and I am getting a new stock

BTW if Henry said to me ,sorry but not much we can do .I would be ok with it and refinished my rifle stock While waiting for my new long Ranger in 223

In Canada we represent only 3% of the total non- restricted US gun market we are used to getting just the surplus stock that gets shipped abroad .So we have to improvise and do it ourselves ,but you have to try and see what Customer Service can do

This company has made me into a believer and am an official ambassador to Henry arms

I already received my replacement butt stock in the mail ,and surprised they also sent a new for end matching the Butt-Stock

I realized that they are a cut above all other gun manufactures ,I am very pleased, and I will support any company that supports me

Thanks to this Forum and staff I feel Humbled

Congrats on getting your new Henry wood, and also on becoming a "Henry Ambassador."
(I remember how great it felt the day Henry sent me my new .357 BBB forearm at no charge).

And I rarely, if ever, have heard that Henry's CS doesn't come through, and often by going that extra mile!

That's awesome news.

I checked mine out over the weekend and I have to say mine doesn't fit perfectly. There is a bit of misalignment on one side of the stock. I mean, its very good but not exactly perfect. It's good enough that I won't be calling.

Did you get to keep the old stock and forend? If so I think you should refinish in a different color just for the fun of it! Get creative and see what you can come up with.

I'm in Canada too but I'd talk to Henry first. I think they'll help you and make it right. Give it a try.
