It was just too dang pretty to take out into the woods. It was a great shooter and shot very well out to 50yds which is as far as I tested it with the iron sights. A friend of mine kept bugging me to sell it to him so I finally obliged. Most of my firearms are going to be hunted with at some point in time and I didn't want to have to put a sling swivel on the stock not bang it up or scratch it up in the woods. I'm careful with my guns but those love nicks seem to show up when carrying in the woods.

But all is not lost, I just ordered a Big Boy Steel Carbine model and I'm going to love it for sure. I also have a Big Boy Steel 44 Mag rifle that shoots great. I probably would have bought the steel carbine first if they had been in the system at the time. When I bought the Steel 44 it had just came out and then the steel 357. After that the Big Boy Carbine 357. If they come out with Steel Carbine 357 in an All Weather model, I'll have to get one of those too, but it will have to wait.
There was a Marlin 357 locally for sale but the new Henry Steel carbine was less and I think the shortened 336 action is smoother than the 1894 action.

I know what you mean about not getting it scratched or nicked, probably a smart move on your part. Best of luck and good hunting with the new one.

well understood .... if I had a good looking Big Boy in any caliber, I would feel the same way .... that's the exact reason we ordered our 44 Big Boy Steel and our 45-70 color case hardened .... looking at your impressions once you fire your BBS

I'm really looking forward to your Henry rifle hunting stories. Your friend got a great rifle, too! I hope he joins our group and tells us about it.

Posted in the classifieds here at the right price I may have jumped on it too. Really liked the way the big boy carbine felt. The balance with the barrel weight just felt right....

What? Did it become PRETTIER after you bought it? I'll agree I was thinking the same myself after buying mine but I bought it as a shooter and that is what it is. I just tend to be a little more careful with it than some other guns - like no barrel down leaning on the front seat or laying uncased in the back seat - like I have done with other, less pretty guns! I treat my Commemorative Winchesters the same way but they too are shooters. This is a cut and paste from a post on another forum where a guy said (and did) the same thing for the same reason!

I love guns with a deep blue, and beautiful walnut, but if they show a little wear, all the better. Just like an old Strat or Tele.

Having said that, I need something to cover the gap between my .22mag (bolt) and .308 (bolt); neither of which would be to too scary to a burgler.

The BB steel carbine would be perfect IMHO. I just want to get a 22lr (bolt) first...........

Well it might be a while before I can pick up my riflexible if it didn't get flooded. I am in Livingston county in south Louisiana where we just had massive flooding from 25+ inches of rain. I was high and dry but don't know how my local gun store fared as the entire city of Denham Springs flooded.

Glad to hear you are okay, Hunter. Sounds like many of your neighbors were not so fortunate. Prayers and best wishes to everyone affected.

That's the thing about some guns, they are almost too pretty to carry. My Sig P220 and all my Glocks were made to carry and can take a beating. The Sig was a Fathers Day present more than twenty years and twenty thousand rounds (competition) ago. Still going strong. A get well present from the wife following a knee surgery, Kimber Tactical Ultra II, shoots great, feels great, but falls in the too pretty for daily carry. In some circles you'd call it a BBQ or Formal gun. Lol.

Even with our restrictive gun laws in Canada, mine get packed around. Nothing of mine gets babied. Trucks, saddle, etc. Used but not abused.
