Good to know! So that little shortness on the Hornady will cause poor ejecting and chambering of the round with the H010?JEBar wrote: ↑Sun May 23, 2021 6:36 pmbe advised that Hornady LeverRevolution 45-70 brass is shorter than standard and should only be reloaded with the same powder and bullets that they came with .... for that reason, many of us do not fire LeverRevolution factory loads
secondly, HSM Cowboy Action ammo is an excellent product and its brass can be reloaded with wide range of bullets and powder
Spring has sprung. Get out and shoot your Henry

the overall length of their LeverRevolution ammo is the same as regular .... the case is shorter because the bullet is longer .... I haven't heard of any ejection or chambering issues .... what I have experienced is our Henry CCH 45-70 simply doesn't like them .... the have all of the kick on my end but don't group anywhere like our loads on the other .... from what I've heard, the same has been true for some (certainly not all) othersKissmybrass wrote: ↑Mon May 24, 2021 11:24 amGood to know! Just found some cowboy loads online for 35 bucks! Black powder. Not too shabby. 1000 fps muzzle and heavy bullets. Can't wait to get em and compare
So the only con with black powder is the mess? Never used Wild West stuff.

interesting, I've never seen black powder cowboy action factory ammo .... once you fire black powder in a firearm, a thorough and I do mean thorough cleaning is in order .... that's something I'd have to think long and hard about doing .... could you post a picture or other info on those bullets

I personally would not shoot actual black powder (the substitutes are better) in a modern lever gun. Cleanup is a real chore compared to smokeless, and it takes different cleaners. You could always do what revolver shooters do, strip the gun and boil all the parts in water.... Do your cleanup IMMEDIATELY after you get home, don't park the gun in the safe for a week. BP is hygroscopic, it absorbs moisture from the air and that causes rust.Kissmybrass wrote: ↑Mon May 24, 2021 1:46 pmJust found some cowboy loads online for 35 bucks! Black powder. I would remove the bolt, invert the rife in a rest (horizontally) and clean from the breech so the crud doesn't get forced into the action.

Some is explicitly prohibited in lever action rifles, I am not sure why....

link appreciated .... I'm relieved to see the caution against using it in modern lever action rifles .... black powder is corrosive and I believe firing it could easily end up creating rust in places that could really age the rifle

So glad I'm on this thread!
My bad though!

I guess they just cut the amount of powder in the cartridge to decrease the pressure?
I need some ammo 101

Grizzly has a good name in ammo .... their price is about $10 less per box of 20 than HSM Cowboy Action ammo I've used
