X Rifle Ammo
X Rifle Ammo
Just purchased the X rifle in 357. While visiting my LGS I was told that Hornady Leverevolution won't work in the side gate rifles. Has anyone tried it
Re: X Rifle Ammo
No, but I can't imagine any reason why it wouldn't work. If that were the case it wouldn't work in Winchester, Marlin, or Rossi rifles either, and I'd bet there's many of those owners who shoot the LeverRevolution.

Re: X Rifle Ammo
What reason did they give for it not working?

I have the 357x and went to the range about 3 weeks ago with the leverevoultion ammo. I only fired a few as 357 is getting hard to come by. I fired some other ammo. Pmc Bronze gold 158 grain. No feed problems.
I did have some difficulty with the feeding of the leverevolution. Not every round. I only had the box of 25 and did not want to use all of them.
I have had this gun since around March and probably have less then 300 rounds through it..

I did a little investigating, and found this statement on the Hornady website. Not specific to any make. model or caliber however. :
"NOTE: The innovative LEVERevolution® FTX® and MonoFlex® bullet designs may require a newer magazine follower to provide best possible functioning of the last round out of the magazine in certain guns.

Re: X Rifle Ammo
I have shot it in my Rossi 357 with no problems.
Not quite the same, but I wouldn't think there should be any real reason to be concerned.

Re: X Rifle Ammo
That is strange since that ammo was designed for lever rifle use.

Exactly! If it were not intended for side gates, it would be named MagTubeFrontLoadOnlyEvolution.fortyshooter wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 10:35 amThat is strange since that ammo was designed for lever rifle use.
My X 44 Mag does seem to feed bullets with a round profile and hard surface better, meaning not all-lead or jacketed lead flatnose..... but that might just be my gun. A Hornady XTP feeds super slick, a full copper Lehigh Extreme Penetrator feeds about 95% as good, with a very occasional slight hangup.

Re: X Rifle Ammo
Thanks for the reply. I've used it in a Henry all Weather 44 mag (not a side gate model)with no issues. I'm considering buying an X in 44 mag but not if the leverevolution has issues. I have 18 boxes of that ammo. I have a few boxes of 357 magnum leverevolution. I'm going to see how it works. Thank you for input. My name is Roger.
