I received this email notification from Midway. Looks to me that the Remington primer business is officially gone. At least under the Remington name.

Whoever bought up the ammunition brand will probably continue.

That’s too bad in general but more specifically for those loading for semi-autos. Remington primers are known to be a bit harder than other brands and lots of the load data calls out Remington. Never used them myself but sure hope they are going to be manufactured in the future. Just another bright spot in this disaster we call 2020.

If I remember correctly the parent holding company of Federal and Speer ammo lines, Vista, bought the Remington ammo line and any of the remaining Remington ammo and reloading component stock that was remaining in Remingtons warehouses. So, maybe some Remington ammo and components may be able to be found for awhile until it is all gone. That is unless Vista reboxes and relabels it.

From what I read Remington in the last year or so wasnt contributing that much because of there financial situation. Couldnt afford to buy the raw materials to make the primers.

Vista Outdoor intends to produce ammunition using the Remington Brand.

I would hope this comes true and soon. With one less manufacturer in the market it's just going to take that much longer to get back somewhere even close to normal.

I'm pretty sure that there are ammo manufactures out there who don't make their own primers .... my hope is the neg guys will do so

From what I understand, Federal makes their own primers in house. Video of ammo being made at their factory.

I didn't even consider Remingtons contribution to the reloading hobby. Only been reloading for two years and only brands of primers i have used are CCI and Federal.

MidwayUSA have products listed as discontinued that I could find elsewhere. I would not put much faith in their system. Sometimes it just means a later model or version is coming.

They also have some weird “dead and buried” product pages that would be better off purged from their system entirely.....like the Ruger Old Army which has been gone since 2009.

I have a hard time believing that the new owner of Remington ammo would not get the primer line back working.

Vista now owns the CCI, Federal and Remington primer production facilities. Maybe they will stop marketing the Remington primers and just concentrate on the CCI and Federal brands for retail sale. If so, the loss of Remington primers in the market may be made up with an increased supply of CCI and Federal Primers. We'll just have to wait and see.... :?:

LGF, you could be right, and would be just fine by me. As I've never used Remington primers.

Mostly CCI & Winchester, a few years back during another shortage I bought a brick of Tula LR primers, and they worked perfectly.
