I have an opportunity to get 100 rounds of 44 mag spec 200 grain cowboy and 125 rounds of 44-40 200 grain Win cowboy for $100 bucks from a trusted friend. They are round nose flat point lead.

I have read that some folks have feeding/ejection issues with some of these.

Has anyone been able to use this ammo without problems? Should I be wary of ammo like this?

Sure seems like a good deal for the price but I don't want to buy it if I'm gonna have significant issues with it.

Take your rifle over and cycle a few

testing it in your rifles is most certainly the surest way of knowing .... so long as the ammo meets SAAMI specs it should be good to go

Well, in your shoes I would pass, ask if he will sell you the just the Mag ammo. That way you will have usable used brass. Unless you plan to buy a .44-40 gun in the future? If you want cowboy loads for your Henry, you can just make your own with Mag brass and fast pistol or Trail Boss powder. If you don’t reload, maybe this is the time to start, then you do not have to keep making compromises.

Sometimes shooting the “wrong” ammo is acceptable, but IMHO only in dire circumstances. I have an SP101 revolver in .327 Federal Magnum. It “can” shoot .32 H&R Mag, .32 S&W Long, 32 S&W and even .32 ACP. I have dies and 300 once-fired cases for the latter so I can shoot soft lead round ball gallery loads if I had to. That doesn’t mean that I will .... I would much rather shoot the original cartridge, just loaded up or down to suit the need.

It’s the same with my.44 Mag BB X - load the ammo to suit the need.

I would agree with John. The 44 mags should work, but not so much those 44-40's.
