Picked up my new 357 Steel Carbine.

Added a Brass Stacker ROL sling with Bandolier.
It also has a Maxpedition shoulder pad on the sling. The pad is held on with Velcro straps. It's nice if you plan on carrying a rifle for several hours as it pads the shoulder quite well. If not, it can be removed in ~10 seconds. I have a couple of them and move them from rifle to rifle as needed.

I also have a D4 lever wrap on order that should arrive later this week.




The only issue with the Henry was that the diamond insert in the sight was stamped and painted off-center, which is not uncommon on Henrys. I blacked it out, reversed the insert and by using a NightSiters "bar" piece cut to size, added my own rear mark. A couple layers of clear no-gloss nail polish made sure it will stay put. I do want to swap out the sights for some Skinners, Ranger Point or Marble sights at some point. Most of my other lever guns have peep or ghost sights installed.

Beautiful rifle you have there. I also prefer the peep sights. I am going to be putting a set of williams peep sights on mine when it returns. Love the Marlins you have there. One question though, did you turn the sight around on the 1992 model ? It looks backwards in the picture but it maybe just me. If you did turn it around just woundering why. Curious minds want to know ?

Congrats on the new 357 and nice job on the sights. Ive also been looking at getting a ranger point sight. Just havent done it yet

Nope.

The Marlin 357 has a "One Ragged Hole" ghost sight on the rear.

The 444 has a XS ghost (with wings) sight on the front and rear.

As far as I know, One Ragged Hole is no longer in business and has been gone for quite a while.

I have the same Carbine and love it! I put a Skinner Express on it which is a great addition. The RPP stuff is top notch too. If I were doing it again, I would pick one of the new options from Skinner or RPP that offer scope mounts integrated with the perp sight. It just adds another layer of potential, although unless your eyes are bad, you probably won’t be shooting a .357 much past 75 yards if you want it to be effective.

Got my D4 lever wrap today. Really does make the lever easier to use.
The Henry is now completed. Maybe next year I'll swap out the sights, or buy a grinding wheel and make a "fortyshooter" special.

Nice Henry Carbine. I have a Big Boy Steel 357 rifle arriving Thursday. It will be my first centerfire Henry. My other two are rimfire. I went back and forth on weather to get the rifle or carbine. I like the looks of the carbine, short and big loop. I like the rifle because if the extra capacity and maybe better accuracy. I would love to have both.

Welcome to our world mauldens. The rifle might have a slight advantage over the Carbine in accuracy, but that would be hard to believe since my Carbine is a tack driver. You can always add the big loop to your rifle. A Skinner or RPP receiver mounted peep wil do wonders though...

Sadly, my rifle arrived damaged and had to return it. But there is a silver lining! I am going to get the new side gate model and I decided to go with the Carbine. My original thought was since it is tube fed, reloads would be a little more involved so I wanted more capacity. With the side gate, I can just top it off as needed. So I am pleased with the result (as long as the new one arrives undamaged).

It sucks that your rifle arrived damaged, but a big win to be able to trade it for a side gate carbine. With cartridges like .357 and .44, I see very little advantages in the rifle length, aside from the slight gains in capacity. That said, I’ve nver needed more than 7 shots for anything, so I’m good with that. The carbines are really well balanced, and mine shoots great. I’d love a side gate, but will stick with what I have for now.

Sorry to hear of the damaged rifle but it sounds like you are getting a great deal in the end. I have owned both in 357 rifle and carbine. I have a carbine now in a CCH version. It has excellent color case in the receiver and would not trade it for a sidegate. Ive seen no real difference in accuracy between the rifle and carbine. But I like how the carbine handles much better. Welcome to the forum also

I love the look of the color case. The only reason I didn’t look for one is the octagonal barrel. I wanted it to be as light as possible. I will get one one day though.

Welcome to the forum. I am getting a 357 carbine CCH as soon as my LGS can find one. Hard to say when it will show up as they seem to be in large demand.

Like your new Henry. How does it shoot? I really like the sling and will be checking them out.

Welcome themauldens from Ca. Nice choice of a Henry you have. Nothing shabby with those Marlin's either. You're doing well.

Welcome to the madness. I chose a BBB rifle with an octagon barrel. Upgraded to the large loop lever. I haven't tested accuracy yet but can tell from shooting it that its very consistent with my handloads. I love it.
