You'll know for sure about the front sight height after you mount the peep and shoot your Big Boy, CT. Let us know your results, too.
Enjoy the project --- it's a fairly easy and fun thing to do! :)

Me too.
Me, too. The sight and the blank came in Friday's mail. I got a brass punch yesterday.

Not sure if you've installed a blank before, but there not a one an done item. You have to size them first cause there oversized before you can install them on your barrel. This is best done with a file. And if you over do it, don't worry. You can shim the blank with about anything. If you can't find something your comfortable with putting under the blank, you can always put some blue loctite 242 on the blank. Everyone that owns a Henry rifle should have a bottle of loctite on hand for the receiver screws. Anyways, hopefully I've helped you out. ;) 8-)

Thanks, RFB. Your advice came just a bit too late, but it explained why I had to hammer that thing so many times to get it centered, which I eventually did. The rear sight came out easily, so I was surprised by how stubborn the blank was to get on.

But, it's all done. The peep and blank are installed and without doing any damage, but I did find that under the factory rear sight, the barrel was marred. I did my best to touch it up with a Q-tip soaked in cold blue and I did a better job than I expected, though if I look at it closely, I can still see it. A bit of Renaissance Wax helped to hide it even more.

The peep arrived screwed all the way down. I guess that's where to start sighting it in. I may get to do that this week.

If the machinist milled out too much metal, the rear sight installer probably roughed it up to get a certain amount of tension to install the rear site. Henry probably has a gauge they use to measure the amount of tension or torque it takes to install the rear sight.

When I got my BBS 44 Mag back from Henry from having the outer magazine tube replaced. I forget what the nomenclature is, but it's the support bracket that holds the magazine tube to the barrel. I noticed a burr was sticking out from the support bracket. My thought was, they roughed up the cut out on the barrel so as there was enough tension holding the support bracket to the barrel.

Then again, this is just "my opinion". I don't know if this is true or not.

I have a brand new Henry 357. Just put the peep on last week and love it. Didn't even have to replace front sight.. Shoots well to 50yds with peep screwed all the way down.

The blank just needed a little filing to fit.

Enjoy it!

Thanks. Just peering down the barrel through the peep, I can tell it's going to be a lot easier to aim. I'll post a range report as soon as I can.

CT you are going to really like that Skinner sight. Andy is a great guy & can get you set up properly.
Please give us a range report when you get it all set up & out to the range.
Good shooting.

Skinner sight is the only way to go. I have them on both. Big Boy needed a higher front ramp which required some filing down.

I bought a Small Game Rifle because it came with the Skinner mounted on the receiver. I was originally planning on ordering a Skinner for the Golden Boy so when I took it home from the shop I could immediately put it on, but then I discovered the Small Game Rifle. I might need the higher front sight on the SGR.

I just added the knurled knob on the Express to adjust raising and lowering the peep and I bought a smaller .70 peep that is just awesome looking down the barrel. I'll post a report on the new setup as soon as I get to the range again, which I expect will be some day next week.
