Re: Provider and Protector
I have the full size CCH 45-70 that I had cut down to an 18” barrel. As I measure it, the tube is about 17” long. Roughly. So how do the new Protector models have the same tube with a 16” barrel and both hood 4 rounds. If you look at the comparison on Henry’s site, the mag tube appears longer, from the loading port to the end of the tube, on the full size one like I have.

DSchmidt23. The "Protector" is a brand new release so I doubt if anyone here has one in .45/70 yet to answer your question. I have the fresh out of the oven Protector in .360 BHMR and it's supposed to hold 4 but one of my handloads with lighter plinking cast bullets will squeeze 5 rounds in the tube. Barrel is 16" and mag tube is 3/4" shorter. My favorite Henry ....until the next one comes along.

Ah! Now I understand. Note that the 16.5" barrel length does not include the threaded portion at the end of the muzzle. With the thread protector cap, the barrel is little bit longer than 17". Ehhhh - still seems like it doesn't quite match up. At about 17" the barrel, with cap, and the mag tube should end about the same place. But they don't in the picture.DSchmidt23 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 21, 2026 5:53 pmI have the full size CCH 45-70 that I had cut down to an 18” barrel. As I measure it, the tube is about 17” long. Roughly.
