I’ll post up when I get to the range. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks.

Re: .44 twist rate vs bullet weight?
Well, I finally got some range time today. I think the new barrel is a winner, but my new scope mounts are junk! I was all over the place again, but not like before. I got some flashes of potential, then put the .44 down to let the barrel cool, and next round it was consistently shooting elsewhere. I also shot my wife’s new .270 Weatherby and my freshly scoped SGC in.22LR. I honestly left thinking “screw these dang Henrys!”, as neither one was doing anything good. In the end, I figured the rings on my .44 were not tightening properly (They are QD rings), I ordered a new set of quality rings that are not QD, so I’ll give it one more chance. The cost of ammo is starting to piss me off though. I had the .44 good on Federal and then when I went to dial in my $70 for 20 hunting rounds, it went to pieces and I shot most of a box before finding the loose mounts. Ugh.

I went back out to the shop and had a look at my targets. The 55 yard one shows promise. The 100 yard (with some .270 sprinkled in) isn’t horrible, given the wind and shifty scope mounts. I think with a bit more time and ammo, I might get it to a happy place.

Sometimes we just like a dog chasing its tail. Hope you get the kinks worked out of that 44. It’s been a journey for you for sure.

Glad it's coming along Red, I'm betting the new rings will make a big difference.
Yep, 44 ammo can be pricey, wish you were closer we'd reload some and see what we could figure out.
I can't even remember the last time I shot my 44 rifle.

Re: .44 twist rate vs bullet weight?
Yeah, I hope it comes together. I have two sets of furniture for the .44 and the fore end has a bit of play, so I thought the slight rattle / slop I felt was that. Glad I figured out it was rings too.
I shot the last of my hand loads yesterday too. I have some American Eagle cheap stuff, but it’s my hunting ammo that’s pricey. I was close with the cheap stuff, but of course ended up blowing a $70 box of hunting loads trying to sort it out. I should learn that if it’s going sideways after 5 shots, it’ll still be sideways after 15…

Re: .44 twist rate vs bullet weight?
So some more rounds have gone down the tube. It’s relatively good with 240 gr American Eagke JHPs (I feel confident it will be in 2 moa), and then I shoot my 225 gr Barnes VOR-TX hunting rounds, and it is literally off the paper at 50 yards. This is, in layman’s terms, a load of shhhh it. I just ordered some 270 gr Federal Hammer Downs. If it won’t shoot them, I’m done. I’m going to sell it and order a new Marlin Trapper in .30-30 Win. At least I’ll have lots of ammo to go with the .44 BBSC. I’m disappointed as my .357 Mag BBSC is a tack driver.

Re: .44 twist rate vs bullet weight?
Reading a bit more on the Hammer Down ammo this morning… It was co-designed with Henry, so if it doesn’t work, there are no more excuses. It seems to favor the heavier bullets now, so the .270 grains should help. Performance stats (claims) are certainly positive.
