X Model in 357 and 45-70

Quick update and range report.
Shot approx 250 rounds through the Henry.
No issues other than what is stated below at this point.
I was just cycling rounds and not trying to look at accuracy but it appears to shoot very straight and repeatable.
Will do a more serious target shoot another day.
Just wanted to expose any obvious issues at this point.
Overall rifle did well.
Two primary issues that i am looking into.
Magazine tube follower becomes stuck at approx. 10.25 inches from end intermittently.
When cycling the gun, the last round tends to hang up slightly. Not as smooth as all the other rounds.
Cycling is acceptable but i will be looking into making it smoother.
Not as smooth as my Remlins but i have done a good amount of work on them.

Other info.
Compared to my Marlin 1894 CSBL.
Weight:
Marlin = 3053 g or 6.73 lb
Henry = 3312 g or 7.302 lb
Note center of gravity difference in photo.
Between the higher weight and the more forward CG, the Henry feels significantly slower and front heavy.
The Marlin feels like the weight is in the rear where as the Henry feels like the weight is in the front.

Try cleaning the tube taking the follower out.

Ditto BigAL. Clean it and gun oil it lightly. My tube was brass fillings gritty from the factory.

I'm working on high resolution side gate decals to "cheaply" join the club!

I believe I can fully reload my 357 BB using my speed loader tubes quicker than using side gate.
However you can't beat the advantage of topping off a rifle while shooting if you need to.

Do they make decals for my H001?

It doesn’t take much foreign debris to stop the follower. I’ve had to clean mine a few times in my rimfire.

The follower on my BBS .357 Carbine was doing the exact same thing. It was getting stuck right where the groove is on the brass tube. This wasn't causing any malfunctions on my rifle, but I knew it wasn't supposed to do that. I called Henry and they sent me a new inner magazine tube and the new one is fine. This may be a production issue with some of the inner magazine tubes. They sent me a new tube despite the fact I told them that the rifle was NOT malfunctioning. The rep I talked to said that it shouldn't do that after I asked how to make the follower come back out. I got the new tube six days later.

I'll look into taking it apart then contacting Henry if the issue still exists.

quick update.
Talked with Henry.
They stated that the magazine tubes by their position is not serviceable.
They are sending me a new one and it is supposed to be here tomorrow.
In the mean time, i attempted to drive the steel pin out of the end on the magazine tube and it didn't budge.
Once my new tube is here and i know it is working, i will get more serious about taking apart my old one.
I may email Henry tech support to see if they will tell me how the tube end is assembled to give me an idea of the best direction to go to disassemble.

Well.......Just got the magazine tube in and ....its the wrong one.
Talked with Henry and they apologized that they sent the standard length one, not the one for my rifle.
They are sending another one out.
Henry's customer service is amazing and makes me want to buy more guns from them just because.
I'll update when i get the new tube.

Agreed, it is starting to grow on me.
I don't like the plastic magazine follower and will be looking at seeing if it is practical to take apart and have one machined out of Delrin, HDPE or teflon or maybe even brass.
Also looking at a replacement for the O-ring used on the magazine tube. Maybe a spring washer machined to size.
The rest of the plastic i can live with.

One thing I did was to wrap a brush that will fit into the tube with a patch. I use cleaner on it and run it up the tube as far as it will go with a rod. Sure you dont get all the way to the end but you get most of it. You will need about a 45 to 50 cal brush for those tubes.

Great timing, looking forward to your report. I was at the range the other day shooting my AR in 9mm with a red-dot and I decided I really don’t like the rifle or sight. I’m planning on replacing it with a 357X in the future. Here in Washington State we are starting a lockdown type of process tomorrow Wed 3/25 so there is no sense in trying to find one now. (Gun shops to do transfers will be closed). Glad you got yours before the deadline.

I just found out that my lgs can stay open while some others have to close. Each industry classification has a four digit NAICS number assigned to it. As an example - grocery stores have the NAICS number of 4451 and can stay open. Most sporting goods stores (many gun dealers) have a NAICS number of 4511 and have to close. My lgs has a different NAICS number that allows him to stay open, very good for him. It's all legal mumbo-jumbo and our governor does not like guns at all. Any way, it worked out for me to get my X Model.

Just to let you know - - I had called Henry and they set up a drop ship to my lgs so I could get the X Model right away. I paid $815 out the door and this was not a bad deal when you consider adding shipping and transfer to a web purchase. The drop ship went through Davidson's so I have both the Henry warranty and the Davidson's warranty.
