Swarming Flies

Post by Sir Henry » Mon Sep 19, 2022 10:03 am

About a week ago I discovered flies in the house. Lots of then especially near windows. I spend the first ten minutes of each day vacuuming flies. I’m told this will last about two more weeks.

That's interesting. Knock on wood, we don't have fly issues here. There are plenty of spiders here though.

They are different than house flies and don’t carry diseases. They eat mainly plants and don’t hang around people food.

People here tell me they just vacuum them up and don’t spray.

I get elm leaf beetles on my windows, don't tend to see them elsewhere in the house. I guess once they get in they just want back out. Not nearly so bad since I got rid of the large elm tree in my front yard but there are enough elm trees around that I still get some.

Get an A Salt rifle. They don't work very well but when I nail one I feel some satisfaction, but then you have to vacuum up the salt.

Lots of flies this year in northern Minnesota too. I opened up the door on an air-exchanger that we had just installed in a new home last week... There were hundreds in there! I had to chase them out of there before I could start it up... Kind of like a horror show.
Every year seems to have its insect of the year... Last year it was wasps.

So far it’s been an okay summer for bugs and such. I was expecting a lot of mosquitoes but they never materialized in mass. Ticks have been a concern and I do a full self examination every few days.

August and September are fly months out here.

Last month we had a party in our backyard and we basically had a city wide fly infestation.

We put a Boston Butt on the smoker overnight and thought the smell attracted the hoard to the yard. Nope, it was all over town.

I work part time at the little hardware store downtown and we sold out of fly traps and swatters in one day…

Flies have been eating the crap out of the huskies’ ears. Got some different salve to wipe on their ear tips that really made a difference.
