Home Sweet Wisconsin

I closed on a new home on Valentines Day in Price County in Wisconsin. It’s a modest farm house in a rural picturesque setting.

This telephoto picture from 1995 was taken from Timms Hill and was used in a magazine article. The property was a Christmas tree farm for decades. It’s now mostly hay fields.

I pulled in yesterday in my motor home and had to wait a few hours while the sellers loaded up a van. They gave me a lot of information on the house. The previous owners before them are long term residence and are my neighbors to the west. They lived in the house and remodeled it about 15 years ago. They are in their upper 80’s and want to sell the hay fields around the house. I’m in the mood to buy more land.

There are several places where I can build a shooting range. I’m told no one will hear me. The area is very remote with about eight people in a square mile. Last night I looked out windows on all four sides and could not see a single light from a house. Across the field is an old school house and farm building that is owned by the neighbors and will be for sale this spring.

What a gorgeous house and setting. I'm sure you'll love it. Congrats, Gene. Not sure how close you are to Park Falls, which is in your county, but Park Falls is home to St, Croix rods. The company has a nice fishing store right there in Park Falls.

I’m about 40 miles south of Park Falls, 27 miles north of Medford which is the nearest town of 4,000. Ogema has a population of 181 in town and the post office serves about 850 people. The nearest cup of coffee is 5 miles away.
On the way in I saw several gun store signs.
When I visited you in 2017 I drove across US8 and thought this would be a wonderful place to live. The entire north woods is heaven on earth.
I’m within walking distance of the Ice Age Trail. Timms Hill is 1,700 feet away. I plan on exploring as much of Wisconsin as I can. Either in my teardrop, on foot or ski’s or snowshoes.

Beautiful... Miss Tina and I would love a place like that except too many stairs and too cold.

. If the neighboring town is home to St. Croix fly rods... I'm guessing the fishing is good up your way. Now I'm really

. Shooting, fly fishing, and peace and quiet... Score!

Fishing might be good but the hunting is even better. Everything I need is on the first floor. When I become to old to climb the stairs I can make the sun room into a bedroom. The laundry and one bathroom are on the ground floor.

I only shoot predators, which is why hunting slipped my mind. (Coyotes, etc.). Miss T was a life long hunter, however, and you might still find her in a deer blind. I hunted as a youngin... But after my time in the Corps, I chose to stick to rifle and pistol matches. I shot a lot of both, and taught a lot.

Don't mind others hunting, just lost the desire.

The fishing up here is really outstanding. The area is internationally known for its musky fishing. This is musky country, big time.

I have a coyote pelt I shoot in the early 70’s. It’s been in a closet all these years. I just took it out of the motor home and was thinking of displaying it.

There sure are a lot of lakes around here. There is one on my neighbors property. It’s an acre at the most and can’t be very deep.

You are only just over an hour away from my Niece in Couderay. Will have to keep that in mind if I go to visit her.
