Restored another vintage vice today and started on my last one

Post by Brando73 » Sun Nov 07, 2021 9:51 pm

Built a nice work bench in my outbuilding to use for restoration of my 75 Honda 360T and other projects. In other words, my wife wants our two car garage to have two cars in it and not my projects. Anyway, the bench is 12' long and 28" deep with 2x12 top. Solid as a rock. Wanted two medium sized vices 2' from wall on each end. Another in the middle. I love to restore the vintage vices because they are the real deal. Made in the USA with USA Steel. Nothing made today can match them. Here's a few pictures.
First pic is the first one I did and the smaller of the 3. Second picture is the one I just finished and it just needs to be assembled and polished. Third and fourth pics are of the one I just started. It was really abused.
Had a hole cut in it and I think it may have been used as an anchor. No problem. Nothing a bit of JB Weld can't fix. I'll let it cure tonight then tomorrow, if I can, I'll sand it down good, apply etching primer, sand and bake, paint, bake, paint, bake and then polish(wax) metal and done. I want all 3 vices to sit for at least a month before heavy use. Makes sure the paint is fully cured. Not sure why because I'll be beating the heck out of them soon. Ha.
Well the pic's are not in order but I'm too lazy to fix them

Very nice work. I have an older Wilton I bought back in the early 80's when I did welding. Still have it on my bench. Made in USA.

Cool. They don't make'em any more and the quality of those old ones are unmatched.

Wow! What a great find! I'd love to have a Wilton or similar.
