I could get used to living here! Seriously I could.

That is very nice but a lot of house for 1 person, will you be hiring a maid?
I have no problem cleaning the interior. It’s the exterior where I would need help. Plus some of these properties have acres of crops.

I’ve been studying the demographics of Wisconsin. A few things surprised me. One is Green Bay is about the same size as Spokane. For some reason I thought it was like Seattle.

Voting, % married, % in poverty are all acceptable. I was surprised to discover they lack behind in education. Grade schools are above average, jr high about average and then the high schools stubble to near the bottom.

Property taxes have a high rate. Still less than my overpriced home here but not by a lot.

Most of the population growth was from births exceeding deaths and not by people moving in from out of state.

I can afford in Wisconsin the property I want in Montana and can’t afford. I can’t get a 3,500 sf log cabin on 20 acres for $700K in Montana. I can’t even get 20 acres there. Buildable 20 acre plots have all been bought and split by developers about two years ago.

Shooting on your own property is more accepted in Wisconsin. Well maybe just hunting. I’m figuring if I can shoot a deer in the fall I should be able to shoot quietly at paper year round. One Wisconsin home was listed as being next to a rod and gun club.

I bet I could blend right in.

I like the idea of living further south. The Wisconsin/Illinois border is Southern Oregon to me. Like the border winter sun hours but wonder about living so close to Chicago?

One county density is 54/sq mi with lots of farm plots around. Fields of what looks like hay. I can see big white squares in rows. We have them here and they are huge bales of hay. Then there are stands of trees and lakes and streams.

Having lived in Chicago, I can tell you that southern Wisconsin gets a lot of traffic from Illinois. The Interstate between Milwaukee and Chicago is always busy, night or day. That quadrant that runs from Milwaukee west to Madison and all parts south won't be much different than living in Illinois as far as the land and culture. It's predominantly farm country.

The southwest corner west of Madison is called the Driftless area. It extends north a bit up to the Minnesota border. This is the area of Wisconsin that escaped the last glacier. It's very hilly and forested and picturesque. Lots of small trout streams in the area. Down around Prairie Du Chen, you get into the Mississippi hills area. Also lovely and forested. Winters will be noticeably milder than in northern Wisconsin.

Thanks Joanie. I watched a couple videos on the Drifless. Love the land, the area not so much.

Then I find something like this.

These trails also lead from the 35 acres a half mile away. I could walk from my back yard to a place called Shooting Range County Park.

Okay it might be easier to walk the road.

I think it would be great to travel the backroads of Wisconsin. When I travel I like to stop at all the roadside markers of places and events.

I like that one with 225 acres. You could get really lost out there!

Rib Mountain is right there in Wausau along the river. Beautiful central Wisconsin hardwoods forest country along the Wisconsin River. We live about an hour and a half north.

That one is no longer available. I finalized the terms of selling my house here and should have the paperwork started within a few days.

I found an agent in Wisconsin that works the entire state. I’ll be concentrating more on buying. I think I’m interested in anything that isn’t within 50 miles of the Wisconsin borders. The center really looks inviting and it’s a large enough area where I have choices.

Chances are I’ll like live within a few hours of you.
