Got to talking to a woman tonight that I have seen around town and I mentioned that I enjoy working with wood. She told me her husband had a workshop in the basement and I could have everything if I could get it out of the basement. Hand tools, lathe, table saw, band saw, hardwood benches.....OMG. I told her I would check it out come up with a price but she insisted I could have this stuff for moving it. I need to check it out. I will make an offer if it turns out to be anything worth while, you never know until you look. TOOLS!!! Now I have the motivation to clean up my shop.

If it works out to be worth while, maybe there is something on or about the widow's home that you could fix or repair for her.

Not looking to take advantage of anyone, I don't roll that way. I am sure we can come to a mutually beneficial agreement if this turns out to be something I want and can use. Have to see exactly what it is and how many bodies I need to get stuff this out of a basement. Years ago after hauling several trailer loads out of my basement I vowed to never get myself into that situation again, everything that goes down must eventually come back up. My workshop is 1500 square feet of concrete slab with no steps.

Going to check this out tomorrow, not going to get my hopes up but I told her if I take anything I will take it all. This time she did not object to me telling her I would pay her what I thought it was worth. The lady said she has not been down there since her husband passed 6 years ago because it was way too spooky. It is a 170 year old house so I expect spiders, lots of spiders.

Do what you think is right Ernie. I'm sure you will do right by both of you.

Checked out the tools today. Everything was a table top model except for the metal lathe and a jointer, both tools would take several people to move. The rest was a table saw, radial arm saw, band saw. two drill presses, a really old chop saw, mortise cutter, wood lathe, small sander, scroll saw and a moulding cutter. Except for the metal lathe I have at least one of each of these in better shape. Some hand tools couple routers and a bench that was 6' long X 2'-6" wide included a recessed trough 6" wide down the length. Along with the normal collection of nuts and bolts, drill bits, a couple electric motors of dubious condition, and boxes of various parts for who knows what.
I told her I would think about it and see if I could find someone setting up a shop who could use this collection. She told me younger people don't do that anymore. I will ask around, it is a small town.

The spiders were not that bad but I was glad I took a flashlight. OLD converted crawl space.

What was the brand & size of the metal lathe?

Not something I recognized, a smaller one that had many miles on it. A friend of mine rebuilds and repairs machinery, I may turn him on to it and see what he says.

Hope they find a home. I bought one of these puppies a few years ago when I did the log siding on the house....best money ever spent for home reno's...still use it lots.

nice looking rig .... back around 1975 I lost all interest in wood working when I ran my thumb through a table saw ....

Sorry to hear that. I lost a finger roping a big 'ol cow in 2011....now that finger doesn't get in the way anymore when I rope.

Back to tools, I don't have a lot just the essentials.

Looks very similar to the one I bought last year...or so. Folding table with wheels as well. Ridgid makes good stuff! Managed to get basically the same set up, only Dewalt for a great price. Otherwise, would have been the Ridgid. Either one is probably more than I need.
The slide IS nice to have though.

Bought a Rockwell Drill press set up like a slider, can move the head 12 inches, and a morticing machine with 4 chisels. Both used but clean. Also got 2 wooden 2 screw 10" clamps and an indexing 2 way clamp for the drill press. Paid $50 for all. Think I did OK.
