Ordered this from Amazon to use with my shop vac to capture fines and chips before they can clog my filters in my vac. A friend of mine strongly recommended this type of product but he uses one he placed in a 5 gal pail and swears it will retain even drywall dust. I have pondered for years trying to figure out how to make a water wash system to capture drywall dust that evades even double filters and ends up everywhere. Anyone have experience with a separator?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts .

Never used one, but looks like it would be worthwhile. I've seen these on various dust collection systems. My shop is ducted to the outside, so don't use a shop vac much anyway.

Have you tried a HEPA filter. They are supposed to capture even drywall dust.

Something like this is what you need for drywall dust.

Not in my price range unfortunately although it looks interesting.
By the way this separator works very well on fine dust in the shop but I have not tried it on drywall dust.

Please let us know how well it works Ernie. I have tried to deal with the dust issue in my small shop for a long time.
How affordable is it?

It works well and I paid $146 for it in August at Amazon. Currently unavailable. They also had a less expensive model that mounted on a 5 gallon pail but I don't see that anymore either.

Thanks Ernie, is that for the entire unit I see in the pic?, or just the plastic unit on top?

That was for everything in the picture including an adaptor to hook up the the vacuum. There is no vacuum on this unit, this is just a separator and the SS tank to hold the chips and fines. This goes between the vac and the collection site.
