We’ve been kicking around replacing our Explorer with a larger rig for some time. Earlier this week we had to take the Explorer to the dealer for two recall’s. When we dropped it off we decided to wander around the lot and look at what was available. The new Explorer has an increased towing capacity and would tow our pontoon boat according to the weight. But as discussed a few days ago stopping is another issue altogether.

We looked at the new Explorers first and then asked the salesman about an Expedition. We had already looked at a couple of Platinum level Max (extra long) that were in the 82k range. We didn’t want the Platinum or the Max. The salesman showed us a used 2025 entry level model at a good price but we didn’t like the features, too sparse. So he mentioned they had a 2025 new old stock on the showroom floor the dealer was very interested in moving. It had an upgraded option package that had what we wanted. We didn't’t love the color or the huge sunroof but we did like the price. So we worked out the deal and after two days brought it home yesterday. I’m exhausted Lots to learn with pretty much all the controls on the touch screen.

Twin turbo 3.5 V6 @400 hp ought to tow the boat and the bigger brakes will stop it.

Outstanding. After years of towing things, glad to hear someone ELSE mention the stopping half of the equation. Miss Tina and I had seen more than one small vehicle towing a load we knew would push them if they had to suddenly stop. More than once we overheard the phrase, "Sure she'll pull 'er, it's a V6 Turbo!"

Nice looking vehicle. We did the same thing when we bought the Titan years ago, just told the salesman what we needed, and didn't need...

I have the 3.5l twin turbo. It has plenty of power to tow a big trailer. I'm glad you got what you wanted (and perhaps a bit more) for a good price.

That's a great looking vehicle, and I like that it's got what you want, plus a few little extras. Way better than getting something a little short of your wants, and having to make due.
Congrats and many thousands of happy, care-free miles with it.

Ford calls it Star White Metallic Tri-Coat This is one of the foolish options that I didn’t need especially at an additional $995 But it does glow in the sunlight.

good to hear .... one of our daughter's in law recently bought a new Jeep Wagoneer with a turbo charged V6 .... she didn't know until after the purchase was final that it required high test gasoline .... lets just she isn't happy

I was not crazy about premium neither, when I purchased my 2021 Cadillac CT5. It has a twin turbo V6 at about 335 hp, that requires premium. Yet, I noticed that the acceleration was smooth and consistent using premium. Now, I use premium in all my vehicles, including my 2006 Tacoma. When I hit the accelerator, the vehicle moves.

Also, congratulations on your Expedition! I have been thinking about something to pull a camper. I was thinking about a Jeep Cherokee. But, I am also considering a Tahoe. Besides leg room, power is a factor. So, the Tahoe has edged out.

If you are thinking of pulling a camper, depending on the size, the Cherokee might not have the weight to stop it fully loaded. Also, if you decide you like the camper lifestyle, it won't be long before you upsize.

Ain’t that the truth. In the boating world it’s called “two footits”. Gotta get a longer boat……In the camping world it’s the same only four footits and/or upgrading to a different type of camper. How do I know this……started with an 8’ pickup camper, wandered thru two travel trailers and now a motorhome.

i would like to add a comment about Hatchdogs new ride. my Ecoboost Ranger calls for regular grade gas too. As long as you're not working it. When towing or working the truck, Ford recomends premium fuel. My Ranger is a 2.3 Ecoboost but the principal is still the same. I was told that you can't have eco and boost at the same time. every day driving regular is fine. work time, time for premium. By the way, that is one sharp looking rig.

I was just reading the towing specs on the Ford website and read exactly what you said about using premium when towing. Good advice.
