2007 Freightliner Sportchassis

we just had to make by far the most expensive mechanical repair to date on our '07 Sportchassis .... that being $995.97 to replace its starter .... while that sounds high, it would have cost hundreds more if we had of taken our truck to a Freightliner garage .... while the OEM starter is a Delco unit, buying one exact same one from Freightliner would have cost considerably more in both parts and labor .... for us a thousand dollar repair ain't good any time but considering we've driven it for over 16 years and covered just under 200,000 milesm it could have been and sooner or later will probably be much worse

down here they were sold under the name GEM cars which stood for Global Electric Motors .... it was street legal and we used it for several years ....towing 2 trailers as shown isn't legal in NC so we eventually sold it

I’ve always liked the looks of those Frieghtliners. Here we can drive GEM’s on lettered county roads but not numbered state.

here they are limited to low speed limit highways, I believe its 45 but am not positive about that

I drove a GEM on state roads as a volunteer at Washington State Parks. We could drive them on the sections where the speed limit was 55 and below. It was a workhorse and was very handy although off-road capabilities was limited. I need something around here. People drive off-road 4-wheelers everywhere here.

Originally I thought you were using a unit called an Idaho Tote which is hard mounted to the RV so isn’t considered a trailer. But looking closer I see the safety chains hanging down behind the RV. Here’s a link to what I’m talking about and it looks like as many have Idaho Tote has been bought out by one of the big RV companies.

Positive Update :

as noted throughout this thread, parts and parts replacement cost for our Sportchassis have always been high, much higher than prices charged by other factory dealerships we have dealt with .... the single, notable exception is windshield wiper blades .... our truck requires 2 - 22" blades .... we stopped by the Freightliner dealer in Raleigh this morning and purchased 4 replacement wiper blades .... as can be seen in the last two pictures, the price they charge for a wiper blade is $1.99 (yep, one dollar and ninety-nine cents) plus State Sales Tax .... we purchased 4, at that price I can afford a couple of spares .
