Class A motor home storage

Post by Sir Henry » Sat Oct 15, 2022 6:06 pm

My motor home didn’t sell this summer so I need to deal with where to park it. It’s currently parked beside the house and is an eyesore looking out my window not to mention it will block the winter sun. Picture was taken a week ago.

I’m thinking of buying some gravel and widening the driveway out to about where this picture stops. The two pictures below were taken today

I can access this panel for electricity. It currently only has a 20-amp plug but I could easily make it 30 so I could run the a/c in the summer.

I’m planning to drive my Subaru down to Florida in December with my neighbor mummy and her daughter. We will be gone for two weeks then be home for Christmas and take off for Texas in the motor home. We will be gone a month that trip. Since I have it I might as well use it. Mummy and I are planning other short trips the spring and summer.

My wife and I dreamed of having a motor coach when we retired but wound up having to take in the sister-in-law. Now our trips are confined to the Houston area and only one of us can be gone at a time. It's been that way since we took her in in 2011. No, I'm not upset about it, it's just that we've had to adapt.

I would just as soon travel in my teardrop. My neighbor is so excited and giggles like a school girl talking about going to Florida and Texas. She is 97 and has lived here for 80 years. Her husband passed away 30 years ago and they took in kids. Those kids are now my age and hold her in high esteem. They are not able to travel with her and me doing so brings me into the community. Many of those boys that are now my age have offered to keep my driveway plowed and many other things a rural community does for each other.

I ordered two loads of gravel ten minutes ago. They will deliver it tomorrow sometime in the late morning.

It should be around 32-34 yards.

I leveled most of it. I had to come inside to warm up. It about 28 degrees and 20 mph wind.

I figured two days to spread the gravel and I did it in three hours.

I froze my caboose off today on the tractor. The worst part was my feet. I need better footwear. The good news is the radiant floor heat warmed them right up.

The gravel around here has clay on it. What it needs is a few good rains to wash the clay off the gravel and down to the base locking it in place. When I drove the motor home on the new stuff it sank in a few inches. On the gravel that’s been there in several rain storms is solid.
