Like the little old pickup

Post by Ozarkwoodswalker » Sat Jun 25, 2022 1:04 pm

After looking for months with everything way overpriced i found an old Toyota pickup. More miles on it than I wanted, but will wander down the road in it anyway. Everything works perfectly on it. A 2001 with 204,000 on it when I got it.. hopeful of putting a 100,000 more on it before retiring it to the scrap yard. Just to be safe, I changed spark plugs, changed oil and filter, changed fluids in transfer case, front and rear differentials, flushed radiator, changed fuel filter and air filter. Didn't mess with transmission fluid. Sometimes it can mess one up to change that I hear. Plus, the old man I bought it from ( a mechanic) swore that every other oil change he drained half the transmission fluid out and refilled with new ( never heard of doing that...) anyway... its far from new and not fancy to see. ( sort of like me) .... but it still goes..

Back in the 70" and 80's they were pretty good little trucks ... the Datsun was OK too. The engines were solid ... yeah I saw a couple that burned a valve ... but nothing else real bad.

I had a friend that had a late 60's or early 70's Datsun pickup and they couldn't have made the seat more uncomfortable if they tried.

The old Toyota Hilux (diesel) was pretty indestructible. They tried to destroy one on Top Gear. They actually did destroy it but it did still start and was somewhat drivable.

We used to say that Toyotas with 100k was still a baby.
Yes draining half trans fluid was a thing while I was in the business.

Another 100,000 should be a good break in for it. I bet you get far more miles than you expect.
