1977 Jeep J10
one of our sons has been looking for a old, 4-wheel drive truck for a good while .... he wants it to use working around his place and from time to time for knocking around off road .... the ongoing shortage of new vehicles has raised the prices of both new and used ones .... he called day before yesterday and told me he'd located a 1977 Jeep J10 just west of Nashville, TN and would be flying out of Raleigh early yesterday morning to look at it .... he said that if he liked it, he planned to drive it home .... that's about 10 hours of driving time at interstate speed .... all I could do is tell him is, if needed, his brother and I would be on call to haul a trailer to where ever he breaks down .... that call came shortly before noon .... the truck's radiator mount had broken and it fell back into the motor's fan .... this rendered the truck undriveable .... I immediately went out and cranked our Sportchassis .... after packing a few things I was about to drive over to hookup to our big, flat bed trailer when he called again .... he'd come to terms with a wrecker to load it on a rollback and bring it to his house .... they rolled in just before midnight .... we just went over to his house to see his new to him truck .... he was in the process or pulling the radiator when we got there .... all in all, its in pretty good shape .... the body is sound with a few spots of surface rust .... he said that up to the radiator letting go it was running fine .... when he was born we had a 1978 J10 that we drove for 24 years .... looking forward to seeing how far he takes the restoration

I had a ‘73 J20 with QuadraTrac. Couldn’t get rid of it fast enough. Ate up 2 transmissions before I got rid of it.

I’ve always liked the looks of the J10 even though they weren’t a big seller. Nice color.

I've never owned a Jeep with an automatic transmission ..... its my understanding that the first generation QuadraTrac that was in use in the early to mid 70's .... it had some problems .... the second generation in the late 70's and into the 80's was supposed to be a much better unit

I also owned a couple of CJ’s but they had 4 speeds with lock out hubs. Fun go anywhere vehicles.

Always liked the looks of the jeep pickups. Hope he'll enjoy the rebuild, and his new truck.

You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.

Had a 78 wagoneer on 3/4 ton chassis with all cast iron running gear. Absolute beast in the woods. Miss it.The manual trans with creeper gear was awesome. Would get me to deer woods where not many others could get to.

Nice classic lines. I’m seeing what looks to be a new carb and headers. It’s going to be a fun project for your son.

Hey All,
I drove a jeep pickup like that in 1977 when I worked for BLM. Good truck but a bit low slung and I routinely had to put fires out underneath it. I often had to drive through knee high or better grass and grass would catch where the exhaust crossed a frame member and when hot enuff catch on fire. I often after I stopped smell smoke had to crawl underneath and put the fire out. Just another hazard on the job.
