Just some early impressions of the truck as I now have a little over 400 miles on it. The first thing is the fuel economy. I'm only going by the computer calculations since I have not fueled up since the dealer filled it up. The computer is showing an average of 28.5 mpg for 385 mile average, from the fill up.

If you are looking for a noisy sounding diesel, forget it. The engine is very quiet and no diesel smell from the exhaust. (This makes my wife happy as she always hated the smell of my 2001 Ford F250 Powerstroke.) The cabin interior is also very quiet for a truck. I believe it is quieter than my RAM 1500. Overall ride is very comfortable and it handles both backroads and highway well.

The ten speed transmission shifts very smoothly. You almost have to watch the tachometer drop to know it's shifting. As for power, acceleration is great. I don't know how it compares to a gas V8, but it will get you out into traffic very quickly. I haven't had a chance to tow anything yet so I can't tell how well it handles that kind of load.

As time goes on, I'll report back more.

Paul
Nice looking ride!

Fuel economy is one of the most important things I consider. What is the tank capacity/range?

The Fuel tank capacity is 24 gal. Not sure of the range yet, but based on using 22 gal with a 2 gal reserve, at the current computer calculate mpg, that would give you a range of 627 mi. That's a whole lot better than my Ram 1500 with 32 gal tank. That was a larger capacity tank and the standard tank was only 27 gal. On my Ram I was filling up at about 500-520 miles.

Dodge also has a 1500 diesel. But if I was buying one Id buy the Chevy. Fiat makes the Dodge Diesel and Im not a fan of Fiat at all.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

I drive a 2010 Dodge Heavy Duty 2500 with the Cummins 6.7 L with 6 speed manual tranny. On the road mileage, I get 15 to 16mph towing a 19ft Toy Hauler or empty. The same mph. Don't ask about in town mph.

A friend has a 2018 Ram 1500 with the Eco-Diesel. Only has a little over 15K on it and has had several trips back to the dealer. He is not a happy camper.

Another data point for the Silverado. We just got back from a 500 mi. round trip to West Virginia pulling a 6X10 utility trailer with 2 big Harley Davidson motorcycles on board. About 1/2 the distance was in the mountains. The truck performed excellent. Overall we averaged 18.9 mpg and pulling that load was a piece of cake. Acceleration was good and even on 10% up grades I had plenty of pulling power. I passed several big rigs that as they used the turnout lanes. For now I'm a very pleased with the performance of that 3.0L diesel.
