Bronco is a 3 cyl turbo. Concerned about the longevity of it beyond 100k.
Wow, didn't know they made a 3 cylinder anything.

I had one and it was a 2016 Sahara. We got rid of ours because if you drive them much they will beat you to death with the short wheelbase. Maybe your roads up there are smoother than ours in Colorado but I told the wife I have had enough. YMMV

I would be extremely leery of a Fiat/Chrysler product. Between a well deserved reputation for poor dependability, and the experience of several friends, I would look long and hard before pulling the trigger on one.

Toyota has one of the best reputations in the business. I would look there first. They are more expensive, but they last.

Normally, I would say stick with what you have, if it has been reliable, but I agree with RanchRoper about a small turbo charged powertrain. Not only do the turbos normally need servicing at around 100K, $$$$$$$$$, but the small boosted engines have a reputation for early retirement, $$$$$$$$$$.

I like that a base model jeep is easy on the bank account and will get paid off quick. :)

But anything I buy is preceded by months of homework. Don’t know about anywhere else but almost 1 in 5 vehicles on the road here seems to be a Jeep so there must be something good about them….

A very close friend of mine always wanted a jeep. After six months he regretted it due to the very issue you describe above. A decade later a co-worker was all over the Jeep idea. I recommended she rent one for a week before pulling the pin. She thanked me a few months later.

RR, I agree with your desire for simplicity and the plain Jane going easy on the bank account. Something tells me you wouldn't mind the way the Jeep handles and rides. If possible, I'd recommend testing one for a week or so, just to be sure. I've never had one, nor driven one far, but they seem to be an acquired taste. Good luck.

I drove trucks for decades, and don’t mind the stiff ride. Badger has a short wheelbase too and I can sit him at a long trot all day. :)

Jeep wheelbase is 3” shorter than my Bronco.

saying right up front, I'm a Jeep fan .... I can't help but wonder .... how deep does the snow get that you will have to drive through .... how does the Jeep you are considering handle such snow .. :?:

Badger must have about 30” clearance.

I always wanted a jeep, from the time I got my license at 16. Never got one. Miss Tina has pointed out a few good deals here and there and encouraged me to buy one if I wanted it, but we have two trucks and I wouldn't get rid of either, the jeep would be for running to town in the warmer months with no doors, the top down and enjoying the drive. My luck it would rain. LOL. I just figure the money could be better spent.

A number of friends had Jeeps and loved them... drove them til the wheels fell off and put new wheels on and kept driving.
A few bought them and ... quickly sold them. They weren't JEEP people.

The most popular new vehicle I see around here? The new Jeep pickup. I like the looks of it.
Still not buying.

I will test drive one a few times. My 2010 F350 died in 2021, >400k kms on it. My wife drives my older one, a 2005 F350 with >500k kms on it. The price of diesel now, we won't be replacing either anytime soon. That's what prompted the Bronco in 2021, and at 35mpg I can't complain. It's just getting older and I don't need the hassle of repairs or worse having it let me down somewhere far from home.

And I want it simple...as few gadgets as possible.

The husband of a PE teacher I knew before I retired always drove a newer CJ or Wrangler Jeep. She told me he had never taken any of them off of a paved road.

Kind of like the guys that drive a lifted 3/4 ton pickup and have never hauled anything in it that wouldn't have fit in the trunk of a car. When I'm stopped at a light in my Miata they love to get about 6 inches off my bumper so all I see in my mirror is their grill. They seem to especially love it at night so their lights are shining directly in my rear window.

We have the two trucks, both 4wd, both have been covered in mud, snow, and cow/horse manure. We take care of them, and they look nice even being seven and twelve years old... but they get used. We towed horse trailers, boat trailers, and the trailers that haul the UTV, and the tractor. With my background I always leave space between vehicles. The driver's who tailgate either don't know how to drive, or would rub against you in an elevator. ;)

And they don't even realize they're doing anything wrong. Several years ago I had a young guy in a big pickup going around 30mph and I wasn't speeding up to the 40mph speed limit fast enough for him, he was about 2 feet off my bumper. 2 lanes, one goes across a bridge, the other continues on. He blasted around me and came within inches of hitting me getting back in the lane I was in. After getting across the bridge we ended up stopped side be side. He rolled his window down and yelled lets go over to that parking lot and I'll beat the c*** out of you. Other than a certain gesture I ignored him. He turned left and I turned right and that was the end of it except that was when I decided to always be carrying.

Well, done lots of homework, talked with a dealer and even have the wife onboard for a change in the spring or early summer. :)

Willys package w/soft top.

New color for 2023....Earl. Kind of a sea-foam blue-green-grey....almost same as our canoe. 8-)
