Thanksgiving 2019

Post by JEBar » Wed Nov 06, 2019 9:30 am

Thanksgiving falls on Nov 28th this year .... by many reports, the Wednesday before is the heaviest travel day of the year ..... we will be traveling for our usual family gathering but not in our customary fashion .... instead of taking our camper we will drive with our Daughter and spend the Holiday at one of my sister's home in Asheville...

anyone else have special plans and/or traveling over Thanksgiving :?:

we are still slated to pull out and head west to Asheville fairly early on Wednesday morning .... the weather forecast has been consistent predicting we will drive through rain for most of the 300 mile drive.... rain slated to move eastward around noon with no more predicted over the holiday ....

Unfortunately this year we are sitting this one out. Too much prep for it on top of some ongoing medical drama.

Most of my gang will be gathering at their moms house, in the town I live in. Its going to be snowy and a lot of wind. We all know how to deal with it. Happy Thanksgiving to all y'all.

I will most likely be hunting that morning, then down to the in-laws, only 15 mins. away.
My wife's brother and family will be there from Murfreesboro TN.
If it warms up as they predict I'll drag the scooter out and ride it down there.

Happy Thanksgiving to you all.

I learned to drive in the Rockies. And taught my kids the ways of winter. We are all experienced in the ways of snow. Bless you all. I am privileged to be counted as a family member here.

our travel plans have taken an unexpected turn .... our travel vehicle was to be our Daughter's 2017 Suburban .... its radio isn't just a radio .... it has the Navigation, exterior camera and several other functions .... over a week ago, to put it in highly technical terms, its radio went nuts .... removing the radio involves considerable time in taking the dash apart .... first they reflashed its program, when that didn't correct the problem they removed the OEM radio and installed a new one .... problem remained .... GM dealer support called in and per their instructions, extensive testing began .... a third radio was installed yesterday and guess what, yep the issue remained ..... more consultation with GM .... by mid morning it had become clear that her Suburban wouldn't be ready in time for us to head west in the morning .... got a call from our dealership and was delighted to hear that they wanted to provide us with a 2020 Suburban for our trip .. :D .. its now sitting out back loaded with everything but out last minute items .. 8-)

Sweet, sounds like a heck of a dealership.
Enjoy the trip and be safe.

the fellow who has owned the dealership for 15 or so years has become a friend .... our entire family buys from him and even though he now owns 4 large dealerships, he handles our families business personally .... it didn't hurt that during the time I worked in the RV industry, I sent him bunches of customers who bought high dollar tow vehicles ... those days are gone but he still appreciates it

traffic proved to be a bit heavier than expected but we made the trip just fine ....if the Suburban's onboard indicator is correct she pulled down 21 mpg .... that's pretty much in keeping with the mileage our daughter gets on her 2017 .... it appears to be a fine vehicle
