I stop and make tea at a rest area and then another teardrop stops.

Morning at my campsite. I got in after dark and immediately went to bed. Five minutes later I discovered I’m right next to an industrial area and railroad tracts with lots of train traffic.

In spite of the nearby industrial area it’s beautiful in the park. No hunting in the park but I heard shotgun off in the distance.

Those are grain silos. After all, Nebraska is the Cornhusker state.
The lakes are sandpit lakes which you can find along many of the main highways in Nebraska. The lakes are created when sand and gravel are mined for the construction of the highway. Given that the lake bottoms are sand and gravel, they are very clear. This can be a challenge for fishing, but the lakes often have great bass fishing and bluegill fishing especially in the spring. I used to use a fly rod and float tube for most of my sandpit fishing. Sometimes just incredible.
The gun shots you are hearing is probably coming from the nearby Platte river. Very well known for its duck hunting and duck season is open now in Nebraska.

That’s what I thought about the shotgun sounds. I found an empty .22 brass in my campsite.North Country Gal wrote: ↑Tue Oct 17, 2023 11:56 amThose are grain silos. After all, Nebraska is the Cornhusker state.

Jim (Cofisher) stopped by my campsite and we had lunch. I’ve met Jim three times now. The first time was in Woodinville when he picked up my van and drove it to Nebraska. Next time was at my home in Wisconsin where he delivered my van and stayed for several days. And now we met again today.

Remember, it's not how many guns you have. It's how many bullets you have.

A few stops on my way home. Where my dad is buried.
A tourist trap in Elkhorn, Iowa.
The Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa where Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and the Big Bopper last played before The Music Died.

Nice photos of your travels. The water filled areas close to the road are called borrow pits in the south as in they borrowed dirt for the hi-way and the ground water filled up the hole.
