Heading South In January

Post by Sir Henry » Thu Sep 22, 2022 3:06 pm

I didn’t sell my Class A motor home this summer so I’m taking it off the market. I was talking to my 97 year old neighbor and we joked about running away in it this winter.

Today I took her for a drive and she said she wanted to go with me for real. Her daughter or a friend will be going with us and we have planning to be gone all of January.

She has relatives in Texas, Georgia and Florida. Looks like I might be heading south for the coldest month.

Not a bad plan. For me it's not so much that our winters are hard as much as it is that our winters are so darn long. Be nice to take a break and get away for awhile.

At this time all I know is we are heading south. On Sunday her daughter will come here from Madison and we are going to map out the route.

She is really fun to be with. At 97 she gets around like someone that is 80 and she has a wonderful and positive point of view. And she is not above playing a trick on you.

Sounds like both a great plan and a great time. Nice to see somebody that age have the spunk you describe.

Our schedule doesn’t match her daughters so we are planning two separate trips. December 10-17 we will drive my Subaru down to the Florida keys and stay at her condo. Then in January we will take our time driving down to Texas in my motor home. About a week down, two weeks in Texas, New Mexico and Arizona then a week coming back.

Our trip to Marco Island is off because we don’t know if the condo is even standing. It was dead center of the hurricane path.

Texas is still going to happen. The motor home didn’t sell and I pick it up on Tuesday. My 97 year old traveling companion is giddy like a school girl about the trip and keeps discovering new things and places she wants to do and see.

Turns out Marco Island was 100 miles away and apparently received very little damage. Florida is back on for December.

My motor home didn’t sell so I brought it home. I live on the other side of Timms Hill.

I hate parking it in my driveway but have no other place to put it.

I miss the fall foliage colors. We don't get leaves that turn here in the South. The live oaks stay green all year round and renew their leaves in the spring buy pushing off the old ones. The deciduous trees just drop them without much color.
