valance shown above has been reinstalled .... one week from today we are scheduled to be up town packing up well over $2,000 worth of South Dakota steaks, after which we should be ready to head home ... one of Maureen's brothers and his wife are coming over this evening .... we hope to smoke 3 racks of baby back ribs today and with showers/thunder storms scattered through today's forecast doing so could get interesting
People have been going to ranches and buying beef on the hoof and having them transported to the slaughterhouse. I don't know if that's any cheaper but it's been a trend lately.

the fellow who owns the local grocery in Estelline is a first class butcher .... we've been hauling steaks and other cuts back from here for over 30 years .... we make our order shortly after arrival and by the time we are ready to leave he has aged and processed the beef .... over time our order has grown as we end up hauling it for friends and family who have tried them .... his prices are competitive but the quality is consistently much higher than we can get back home from chain grocery stores ....

our last weekend for this trip in South Dakota is rapidly winding down .... last night we drove about an hour to spend the evening and eat with some relatives .... this morning others brought a picnic breakfast to our site .... tonight still other relatives are having us over for supper .... tomorrow is supposed to be rainy .... on Tuesday we plan to get serious about getting ready to pull out on our drive home on Tuesday .... we've been blessed with really nice weather, sure hope that continues during our trip ....

from a forecast standpoint, we appear to be in for an interesting day .... the written forecast is calling for it to be raining now and for it to continue most all day .... its not raining now and from looking at the radar, it won't be for a at least another hour .... our plans are pretty much on hold until we know just how its going to go .... the good news is, tomorrow's forecast really looks good ....

our last full day in South Dakota for this trip has been a busy one .... packing and storing our gear has kept us pretty busy .... noting major but everything necessary .... tank cleaned, water softener unhooked and recharged, deck down and stored, coolers mounted and precooling, truck fluids check and 1 gallon of motor oil added, truck windshield washed, etc, etc, etc

projection for morning .... up around 7 .... breakfast around 8 ....pull slides and hookup around 9 .... go uptown and pick up steaks shortly after 9 .... head home shortly thereafter

our first day's drive took 6 hr 18 min to cover 329.6 miles .... the good news is the long detour near Council Bluffs we had to drive is no longer required .... road construction lane changes were numerous .... so far on this trip we have put 1,256.4 non-towing miles on our truck .... tomorrow we have another long day planned that should take us to Eureka, MO where we will camp at the West St Louis KOA until Monday
