Home Early

Post by Sir Henry » Fri Sep 17, 2021 6:58 pm

I cut my trip short a week. When I was in Cortez it was hot but more important it was dry. Bone dry. I took an aluminum can of tea out of the cooler wet and expected it to continue to be wet with condensation. Instead the cold can was dry in two minutes. I did a couple more tests dumping water on the picnic table and again it was dry within minutes.

I was constantly thirsty and wasn’t sweating. Or so I thought. The sweat was drying instantly. The real deciding factor was my heart was pounding around 70 beats a minute and was skipping a beat. I felt I was having a heart attack.

Looking further ahead at Moab it was just as hot so I made the decision to dash home. By the time I reached Boise it was much cooler and I was beginning to feel better. Then in Oregon I felt fine and thought I should have just changed plans and see the sights in Boise.

Long story short I’m home and feeling like my old self.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

Glad you're safe and din't take any chances. Boise and that SW corner of Idaho can be very dry, too, but at least it was cooler.

Moab has 6% relative humidity. I think Cortez was even dryer. I’ve lived in Ephrata which is in the desert but I’ve never seen it this dry. Maybe it’s because I was doing a lot of walking and climbing. When I did the ruins it was elbow to elbow from all the tour buses and I couldn’t really see anything. The tour people had the right of way.

From what I’m hearing about the weather in the Puget Sound area this weekend you should be re-hydrated in no time.

Good job listening to your body and making the smart decision.

We have had about an inch of rain in the last 12 hours and more rain on the way.

My personal thinking has always been; " when in doubt...don't ". Nothing gained, nothing lost.
Glad you're home safe Gene! ☺
