I finalized my last reservations a few minutes ago for my trip to Texas. I’ll be gone for 25 nights. The book on the left is from my April 2019 trip.

I will print this and keep it handy as it is how I keep on schedule.

The more I plan now the easier it is one the road. This trip I’m in the same spot several nights but over the coarse of 28 days (I extended it) I pull the trailer 17. On the days off I still drive but leave the trailer parked.

T-minus 4 days and counting. Most everything is packed and repacked.

Day 1 on the road and the first stop is Pendleton Woolen Mills. They don’t open for another hour so I’ll have to wait to see if they have any decals.

I’m in luck I found several decals and this blemished blanket for $82.99 minus 25%. It has a slight wrinkle that can’t be ironed out. I’m a sucker for any tourist trap.

This is my sixth trip to Texas and fourth via this route. Three times I have driven past Emigrant Springs State Park and did not have reservations. This time was different and I have a reservation. Matter of fact I have two because I’m staying here also on the way back.

I stopped at almost every rest area to walk around for ten minutes. The only other stop I made was here and I only took a picture of the sign. I didn’t even walk the 100 yards to view the gorge. I’ve stopped here many times.

I made it further today than I planned. Currently I’m at a rest stop on I-15 in Utah just north of Salk Lake City. I’ll spend the night here and get up anytime after 3 am to get through SLC before rush hour. Then tomorrow I’ll have an easy day.

Tomorrow I’ll have a short 250 mile drive and will be on secondary roads and will stop at several tourist traps I’ve stopped at before. I’ll stop anywhere I think I might find a decal.

I know I could have found a 💩decal if you would have come through Greeley

Maybe I should post this in the coffee and weather thread. I traveled past SLC last night and to the Tie Forks Rest Area. This morning I made a pot of coffee in a haze of smoke.

I’m currently in Helper, UT waiting for this store to open. I’ve stopped here before and they have great trinkets.

I’ve never heard of a dump being closed on Thanksgiving or a museum closed on Sunday.

I might stop on the way back. I’ve stopped here before but couldn’t stop in front to take a picture. I’m not sure why I like to take pictures of my teardrop in most pictures. I go to extremes to do it.

It rained about two inches in 15 minutes. I was afraid I would get stuck in the mud and got back on pavement to a constant threat of nearby lightning. I could see the flash and hear the thunder almost at the same time.

Then five minutes later I was here where it had not rained at all. The mountains in the background are where Smokey Bear was found.

I would estimate it goes out to 1,000 yards. The target lanes are the same width as the near shooting line markers.

Then when I get back to Capitan the power is out. Which means I can’t get my propane tank filled. Which means no electrical power or propane for cooking. Which means cold cereal again for supper.

Day 6: I’m stopped for the night on I-10 in TX just 227 miles from my destination. I paid $10 at the Carlsbad KOA to stay two hours past the normal checkout. I did this to have shore power and keep the trailer a/c on because I knew where I was staying (rest area) didn’t have power. So I timed it to arrive at dusk. It reached 107 today and is still in the low 90’s.

It’s going to be a noisy night as I’m a mere 25 yards from the freeway.
