Route 66 in 90 days
My travels to Port Townsend has got me itching to hit the road again. In checking out all my road atlases and travel guides I’m finding they are 10 to 20 years old. So I am in the process of ordering a current set.
I also use these binders and printed calendars. This is from my 2011 trip from Joplin, MO to Kingsman, AZ. If I remember right it was ten days from Seattle to MN to pick up my sister and get to Joplin and then two more weeks at the end getting from Spokane to Seattle. Now I want to do the entire trip from Chicago to LA. I have done several of these multi week/month trips and I know not to travel to far in one day. That puts the entire trip of just Route 66 at 90 days in my thoughts. Too long for one trip. So maybe three 30 day segments in three years. Or maybe a spring, fall spring plan?
Doing it in segments will also add additional starting and finishing travel days.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

I want to run up route 66 from here and visit the Code Talkers Museum.
Don't know what covid has done to all the sights along the route. I can't do more than six to eight hours a day, in two to three hour stretches these days. Travel isn't the joy that it used to be.

You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.

I’ve been to the Code Talkers Museum. I think I averaged less than a hundred miles a day. Sometimes it took me 300 mile to only get that far. There are many realignments and to see them all you need to plan your route.BrokenolMarine wrote: ↑Sun May 23, 2021 10:54 amI want to run up route 66 from here and visit the Code Talkers Museum.

When I drove from Joplin to Kingsman I drove as much of the original road as possible. For long stretches Route 66 is parallel to I-40 and in many cases is the perimeter road.
Plus there is so much more to see on Route 66 than what was ever part of it. The Cadillac Ranch is a good example.
