Hatchdog, WA State ferries in Puget Sound charge by overall length in 10 foot increments, but they do not actually measure…. The toll guy took one look at the white egg and wrote us up as under 40 feet, even though we were 44 feet. It saved us quite a bit. Rates vary by the crossing, this is for three of the Seattle routes, old data which is lower than current fares.

There are a few safety rules, unlike the Keller ferry which is very laid back. No more than 10 gallons total of combustible liquids (gas, propane) in EPA approved containers (my old NATO jerry cans were not legal so I left them at home), but they do not count propane carried in fixed RV tanks of any size. But you must shut off all appliances, and turn off and flag the gas valves, I used a red steamer of surveyors tape and told the toll guy.

Ollie’s are great double hull, high quality four seasons trailers, terrific for boondocking if specced with solar and lithium batteries, and sold factory direct only from TN, no dealer network; you can check out mine if you like. I am very active on their forum, here is the sales page.

nice .... I've never towed a camper onto a ferry
I’ve owned this trailer three years and it’s already made at least a dozen crossings. I drive for 30 minutes from home to the terminal, lay down $80 and get transported into a different world in a 45 minute crossing.

Port Townsend has lots of tourist traps which I admit to being addicted to. But there is far more to the area. Fort Worden State Park is huge with miles of trails and things to see and do.

The park is almost like a small town. In the morning I’ll be able to walk over to the Commons and get a latte. Half the people in line will still be in their pajamas.

Internet service is slow. I’ll try posting pictures later in the evening.
I had a friend who stayed at some family property just outside of Port Townsend for awhile just after high school, early 70's. I drove over to see him once and I remember Port Townsend as being pretty small, downtown was not much more than one block and I don't think there were any traffic lights. I imagine it's changed a lot since then.
Port Townsend’s population is around 10,000. A lot of the houses were built in the 1880’s and it’s known for its Victorian homes. It was going to be the major city, not Seattle.

Be really careful if you camp further north along the Strait, we had a problem with our Verizon cell data. We were at Port Crescent and my wife’s hotspot connected to the closest strong tower which was in Canada, 12 miles away across open ocean, and she was happily surfing the Net and watching videos. Then she checked her messages and found this:

“Welcome to Canada. With TravelPass you can use talk, text and data from your domestic allowance. You'll pay $5/day only on days you use your mobile abroad. Reply YES to this message and we'll add TravelPass to your line. Without TravelPass, calls will cost $0.99/min, text $0.5 to send and $0.05 to receive and data $2.05/MB. If you need help call +1.908.559.4899.Enjoy your trip.”

We had to drive to a Verizon store in Port Angeles and haggle with the sales droid to get them to drop the nearly US$200 data charge. We were afraid to even call on our phones…. This was a few years back, the setup may be less weird and nasty now.

I really like the dry side of the Olympic Peninsula, drive up to Hurricane Ridge and take the gravel road out to Obstruction Point lookout, it is only open from “about” June thru September because of snow. It gets you away from the bus loads of tourists at the main visitor center.

Fort Worden is fun but too crowded for me, I much prefer Fort Casey on the east side. What a great place for kites…. I used to live in Mukilteo so that whole area was my back yard.

This is my Land Cruiser and my Oliver Legacy Elite 2 “Mouse” in the Kingston Ferry lot waiting to cross back to the Busy Side of Puget Sound.

My plan has U.S. and Canada. I remember when roaming charges were common.

They still require the tag which few people actually use. Mine was the only one I saw in use.

You don’t need a special tag…… but the ticket seller can give you one. Or use this and tie a couple of feet to the valve:

It is just a visual reminder to the crew members wandering around the ship that the valve is secured.
