Does your bike have a geared rear hub? I see a shifter by the right grip. I have a Trek hybrid with an 8 speed Nexus hub, I love it, but it is a PITA to service. I found the secret recipe for gear lube if you are interested.

No shooting of BB guns or other guns allowed in WA State Parks! They are crazy crowded on the Wet Side of Washington.... Did you see this story?

The bridge has been worked on big time in the last year. I was here 14 months ago and they had huge cranes working on it from both side. The view parking lots on each side are total construction zones as well as several acres of staging equipment down the road.

Yes it’s an internal 3-speed. The bike was original just a single. The front sprocket also is very small. My zero to 20 is quick and then it’s top speed. Great for cruising campgrounds.

Today I biked through all of the pull-thru sites and did circles in most of the others. My spot is at the end of a straight road and hidden by brush and even I rode past it without seeing it. I’m back here in August and checked my spot out in the main loop.

I currently run whatever oil I have handy. I was noticing the shifter so a little slow after the trip on the carrier. Any tips appreciated. I think a clean and lube might be in order.

Don't worry about getting older and still doing stupid stuff. You'll do the stupid stuff as always, only much slower. Hold my beer and watch this.......

What a great picture of two aliens. Just kidding of course.

I’m loving the pictures, we’re leaving ourselves a week from Sunday for Steamboat Rock State Park at Banks lake in the Grand Coulee area. Never been to Deception Pass but I need to, looks beautiful as does most everything on your side of the state.

Don’t use any old oil, mixing types is not prudent because strange things can happen, find one that works and use only that. Here is what I use in my Nexus hub. I have tried all sorts of alternative products recommended on the bike forums including greases and ATF, none work well. The Shimano hub Maintenance Oil is good but it is almost $100 per liter! This HHS-Plus is around $30 for a 17 oz spray can. That will last a very long time.

https://www.wurthusa.com/Chemical-Prod ... 0893106026

It is amazing stuff, it is a runny liquid when sprayed, then the solvent flashes off in a few minutes and it leaves a tenacious “adhesive” snot-like lubricant. It is thin enough to be able to migrate around, unlike a grease, but it doesn’t sling off parts or run out past seals like an oil. I have NEVER tried this in a traditional 3 speed hub with an oil port, I think having that port is a big problem because it introduces dirt every time you add oil. A Nexus hub can be opened up reasonably easily, slide all the guts out the right side of the hub. Tie it over a pan, spray liberally with the Wurst lube, let it drain and “dry” and reassemble with fresh synthetic grease for the left wheel bearing. (The right Shimano bearing is a real bear to get to, it requires two special tools ($85) and is tricky.) My hub shifts like clockwork, snick snick snick, no hesitations or pauses.

I do not know if it is compatible with any petroleum lubes, so if you decide to try it, you should clean out all the old stuff, and any dirt and wear particles. Have you seen this? https://www.sheldonbrown.com/sturmey-archer.html

I have a Nexus hub and it’s given me no problems in 15 years. I wonder what lube it came with? I have it serviced every few years and it’s due again.
