That it is. I just walked the rest area since my last post. I walked about three miles at a brisk pace.

We visited the museum here on post. This is an M109A1. I was on a M109 howitzer and we affectionately called them hogs because of what the muzzle break.
Behind it is an 8” howitzer.

Re: September 2021 trip to Texas
I’m on my way back and will take 17 days to get home. Today I visited Living Desert State Park near Carlsbad. I’ll be getting up early tomorrow to climb El Capitan in the Guadalupe. I climbed it in 2013.
The Living Desert is a remarkable park. They gathered flora and fauna and even biota from the region and placed it on the hillside overlooking Carlsbad. It’s been here long enough for the plants to mature. This mature tree is home to dozens of birds. The park is fenced but the sky is open in most areas. I believe these are doves. They sounded like a dove on the wing. They are free to come and go as they please. Some are not like this raven. These birds have been injured and can not fly. I thought what have these animals done to deserve being put in prison. The answer is it’s not a prison but rather a hospital where they get medical attention. This animal is crippled and would not survive on its own.

Re: September 2021 trip to Texas
Life in a teardrop in hot weather is okay with shore power. The only problem is I need to be inside of it. It’s okay for an hour or two but cabin fever sets in.
If I go outside I only stay for a few minutes. I just had some milk from the cooler and when I took this picture I noticed some water leaking after doing the dishes. Getting in and out is easy although getting out is easier if I point my shoes in the right direction for exiting. If I don’t remember I have to reach out and down. Sometimes I think I’m getting to old for a teardrop. Then I think about the 23 mpg I’m getting.

Get a Class A and see the USA. Those shoes look like Oboz. Just think how many stickers you could put on a class A. Nice photos to by the way

Re: September 2021 trip to Texas
Have never heard of Oboz shoes before, nobody around here carries them and due to my foot injury there's no way I could get shoes without trying them on. My favorite shoes are New Balance walking shoes, have worn out many pairs.
Recently got a pair of Lowa's, very good quality but are taking me a while to break in. My New Balances are just about completely worn out but they're so comfortable compared to any others I have.

Gene, your teardrop is a beauty. We have a truck camper and love it, did you ever consider a Four Wheeler or Alaskan truck camper? The Four Wheeler could go onto a half ton truck but the Alaskan would need a three quarter to or larger truck.

Re: September 2021 trip to Texas
I see them, looking more for an all leather upper walking shoe rather than a hiking boot, I think I will be happy with the Lowa's I bought once they are broken in. The Oboz Missoula Low might be one I would try but looks like they are low on sizes too. That's why I didn't get a pair of my New Balances, they couldn't even order them in my size. What is the model that you have?
These are the Lowa's I bought, supposed to be very high quality, made in Germany. I paid $220 for them.

I like the small trailer because I can pull it with my car and because I can drop it if I want to see the sights.

Re: September 2021 trip to Texas
I climbed Guadalupe yesterday. It took me 3 hours and 10 minutes. Not bad for 3,000’ elevation gain.
Yes I’m a happy camper. I was the third one to summit that day. On the way down I passed 27 people climbing.
El Capitan from near the summit.
There are a couple of bridges built to aid climbing.
I don’t like snakes.
This is a well maintained trail.

Great pics Gene, thanks for posting them. Yes, you do look like a happy camper (and climber).
I don’t like snakes either and when I read that sentence that old Jim Stafford song “I don’t like Spiders and Snakes” popped into my head. Now I’ll be humming it all day.

I like the Firebrand II if you Google that it will bring the shoe right up. There about 140.00 and they are waterproof. I havent even seen those that you are wearing.dave77 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 10, 2021 12:22 amI see them, looking more for an all leather upper walking shoe rather than a hiking boot, I think I will be happy with the Lowa's I bought once they are broken in. Re: September 2021 trip to Texas
I’m on my second pair and by pair I mean two sets of shoes. I usually buy two pair at a time. I’m in need of new shoes. One pair is okay but the other is getting worn. I wear one pair for the city and another for getting dirty.BigAl52 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 10, 2021 10:00 amI like the Firebrand II if you Google that it will bring the shoe right up.
