Leupold VX-Freedom

Post by Vaquero » Thu Mar 14, 2019 11:00 am

Found this on ebay a couple days ago.
Best price I've seen on them in a minute.
Got one coming, may be here tomorrow.
Gonna put it on a Shorty 35 Rem. of mine.

Thanks Mark.
I had a nice Vortex 1x4 on it, but
robbed it, and put on my Henry 41 mag. this past Fall.
Been lookin for a replacement.

If I could do it all over again, I probably would have gotten a 1.5-4 x 20 for my BBS 357. Ended up with a Weaver 1-3 x 20. Getting used to it though. Looks very much like yours.

Mark, I had never really used these smaller scopes much before.
Two years ago next month I went to Texas for a gathering.
Bunch of lever gun nuts
Anyways one of the guys there had one of these little Vortex scopes on a 45-70.
After I got home i started looking for one.
Found one on sale, can't remember exactly buy it was less than $150.
I really like it but I found this on sale for way less than I can find another Vortex at the moment.
Here's the Vortex

Thanks for the pic Vaquero..however, my weaver is already mounted and zeroed. It does have nice glass though! Think I paid approximately $165.00 from Amazon. The Vortex looks nice!

.
I think many of the Vortex scopes have gone up dramatically in price (import tariffs?). Almost a year ago I bought a Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6x24, paid $299 and that included a $90 fixed ring cantilevered scope mount. The mount was too tall so didn't use it. Today the same scope is $399 by itself without a ring mount.

Thanks Vaquero. For the realistic distances I will be shooting, I think the 1-3 should serve me alright. :)

Just a tip on those low power scopes. Great choice for learning how to shoot offhand with a scope. Big reason a lot of our guns wear them. Love shooting that way with our rifles.

Well the scope showed up today just like they said it would.
Got it mounted maybe Sunday I'll get some time to get it sighted in.

Yeah, that's a fantastic set-up! I've bought 3 of these VX Freedoms since taking my Henry plunge.
I put a 1.5-4X20 on my 357 BBS, and
a 2-7X33 on my 30-30, and
a 4-12X 40 (I think) on my LR 308.

They've all been great.

Mark she ain't bad at all when I do my part.
Got a pic. some where when it was wearing the Vortex.
So I have something to compare, but I don't really expect much different.
I'll post something in the range report sec.
