I saved one tractor from my parent's farm. A 28 hp Mahindra. A few implements too. At my step son's place, we are plowing new ground.




Behind the small wagon is the patch I plowed up, disced and raked. It contains three rows wide of sweet corn, then two rows of Butternut squash hills and then several varieties of pumpkin hills.




I also just purchased a DR walk behind brush hog. This one just came out of the crate. It's 26" wide with a 17.5 hp engine. I need to set it up this weekend.
It will cut trails and keep the sides of the grass patch down around the garden. Dad had one and it was worth it's weight in gold. I almost cried at what I had to let it go for when I sold the farm, but someone got a good deal. I can't wait to use this one.

That is a good looking tractor even if it isn't green. Like the DR too.

we bought a DR walk behind bush hog 20+ years ago when we were running a deer hunting club .... its a tough piece of equipment

Can I borrow the tractor Dave?

Dad was always partial to Farmalls and John Deeres. He had Farmall H's and a Super A at his dad's farm. He kept the Super A. I couldn't keep it, but wish I could have. He also had two John Deere B's and a John Deere 4o. I loved hearing those two cylinder engines running.
He bought three of these diesel Mahindras later in life. The one pictured was the last one. The other two had buckets and easily sold. This one he used as a run about to tour the farm when he couldn't hardly walk anymore. No one was interested in it so I decided to keep it. I had used them all on the farm and they always did a good job. Pretty straight forward tractors. Dad was impressed with them, although I know he would have liked them to have been green.

My step son put in a garden this year. Some of the first things ready were my favorites, radishes. I know he and his girlfriend put them in for me. He even at the smaller one and liked it. There's something about pulling it from the fresh earth, wiping it off and eating it. It just makes it taste that much better. Here he is proudly holding the bounty.

Do they require much care?

Nice crop, Dave, though I think he might have picked those a bit late. Annie and I planted radishes each growing season for years; just another thing I miss now.

we planted a garden for many years and radishes were one of the crops we grew .... we never had any get that size

Mark, not really. Just plat the seeds and wait. They grow quickly and usually do well. That large one was juicy all the way through. His girlfriend made pickled radishes for me this week. I'd never had them before. Pretty neat.

I think I'll try growing some when the time is right. I did read that they like a bit cooler weather than the heat of summer.

I love them raw with a bit of salt. My wife actually sliced and sauteed some once. They were good that way too! ☺

They grow anytime. They will grow in cooler weather when other things won't. I love them with a bit of garlic salt. They are just good plain too. Plant some now and see what happens. You can't go wrong.

They were always in our late spring garden along with a row or two of sugar snap peas and lettuce. For best results, they should be thinned as soon as they start to leaf out. We loved our radishes!

His garden is doing pretty well for his first one!

It certainly looks healthy!
