I got another garden tractor today. Here is a picture from the internet of the model, it's a White 1855. The picture here is from the internet.

I got it from Facebook Marketplace from a really great guy. I looked at it last weekend and picked it up today. No pictures yet as it's pouring out. It is a model I've always been interested in, but hadn't found one in nice shape. Everything clicked on this one. It's all complete except a side engine panel that isn't really important. It came with factory snow blade and snow blower. It has a 54" deck and all powered implements are shaft driven. It also has a 3 pt hitch on the rear that works with the tractors hydraulics. Deck, blade and blower are easily controlled with the hydraulic lift lever.
It's main purpose for me is to be a pasture mower. My Craftsman can do it, but I think this one can do it better. I find that once the goldenrod is cut down in most areas of the pasture, the grass wants to grow. I need something better than a brush cutter to do it. This one came up and is in great shape. The original owner replaced the original engine with another of the exact same. It runs and drives great. The transmission is hydro, so I can adjust it much easier as I mow than with the Craftsman. It was made by MTD once they acquired the White lawn mower division. I'm looking forward to having it help reclaim as much of the pasture trails as I can. There is just enough unknown tips of rocks here and there that I won't use the good John Deere up in the pasture. It cuts the rest of the regular lawn too nicely to warrant it's use up in the pasture.
Hopefully when it gets clearer, I'll have pictures.
It got a pretty good bath on the way home.

I worked on it in the barn somewhat as it was raining a lot. When I got it home, the engine was surging at low rpms. It hadn't done that at the fellows home nor when loaded. In checking, I found a throttle linkage spring had worked it's way loose on the trip home. After scouring the internet for which end went where, I finally "winged" it and got it right.
The rain had stopped for about 3 hours, but it was still soaked outside. I took it out for a joyride anyways. Unable to control myself, I fired up the mower deck and tested several different cutting levels. It performed wonderfully on soaked grass, down to the lowest setting. It did bog down the engine a bit, so I raised it to the other levels. It worked great.
I took a picture with it near the Mahindra. It's almost similar in size. I'd bet it's pretty close to the John Deere x758 too. I think it will fill it's intended role very well.

I'm very pleased with it. It had new rear tires too. It had no trouble on the hills or wet grass. I will hold off on putting the chains that came with it on until I check it out a bit more.

Nice looking piece of equipment there Dave, and appears to be well taken care of. Congrats!
I have one of those bars in the garage, the bar with 7 holes, that is mounted between the arms on the 3-point hitch. What is that for? Mine has been hanging in the garage laughing at me because I don't know what it's purpose is.

It's just a draw bar for 3 pt hitches. The 3 pt on this, and most garden tractors, is category 0. Sub, compact and small tractors have Cat 1 hitches and larger has Cat 2. They make draw bars like that for all categories. I use a similar bar to attach my pull behind DR tiller to my small Bolens sub compact. The raising and lowering function on the tiller stopped working, so I just raise and lower it via the 3 pt hitch.

Nice score Dave. Having the 3-point is a big plus.

Here are all three of my garden tractors together. The JD is the heaviest, the White is the middle weight and the Craftsman is the lightest. All of them have their own jobs.

Those are some fancy rims on that JD!
Almost hate to get them all covered with clippings.
