2024 Garden is in

I just finished putting in my 2024 garden. I increased the tilled area by about 25%. I increased cabbage and swiss chard numbers. I decreased the variety of tomato plants. Roma, San Marzano and some grape tomatoes are all I put in. The idea is to make sauce in the early fall. I put more cucumbers in this year and added water melon to the mix.
Pictures to come, I'm tired.

It has hit 95F so far today. I spent an hour last night and at least an hour mid morning hand weeding in the one garden. The beets were planted with my garden way seeder. I had not set it's blade depth properly, so not much came up. The same with three more rows of other items planted with the seeder. Oh well. It will get tilled in, except for the beets. I sat on my kneeling pad next to the row and went slowly. I still was sweating, but it was relaxing too.

As you can see, there are plenty of weeds. If I wanted to grow them, they wouldn't come up. The rabbits ate all the leaves off the cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower. Most of it is coming back. The other plants are doing better. It seems that one of the rabbits met with an angry Gardner and hasn't been seen since. The lawn clippings do a great job of keeping down the weeds. All I have to do is keep up with it.

The bucket is my milkhouse music. It holds my spare iPhone and Bose speaker and keeps them out of the dirt and sun. The bucket also seems to direct and amplify the sound. Who knew!

Dave, looks like you been busy. Hot to. I like your sound system also. Is your garden way seeder the same as an earth way seeder. I've had an earth way seeder since '88. Its been a good one.

I think that I meant earthway. The garden way (I think that is what is on it) is a dedicated sleeve hitch planter. I used it for corn last year with mixed results. The earthway, once I set the blade chute depth correctly, worked very well. I even have dad's fertilizer attachment.

I have harvested green and yellow string beans, some peas, and Swiss chard so far. I replaced the eggplant, cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower that was eaten by marauding rabbits. The peppers and tomatoes are forming and look good. Cucumbers are blossoming and the watermelon plants are still there.
On a separate note, there was news of another garden raiding rabbit reported missing since last night. ;)

My second garden has been weeded by my mini tiller. The plants there are doing well. Potato plants are popping up all over from the spring tilling. I'll see what comes up from that. Hand weeding all the garden is going well when I can keep up with it.

I've let my garden get out of control. My wife was supposed to already had knee replacement, but she's been sick and has had to reschedule twice. I didn't how that was gonna go, so I haven't planted anything else.

The garden is starting to produce now. Swiss Chard is flourishing, peas are producing, string beans are bountiful and a few cukes have been taken. Cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower is getting bigger as the rabbits lose interest in getting shot at for it. The tomatoes are growing well.

Looks good Dave. I'm glad those invaders seem to have gotten the message, or that they are on a permanent vacation.
Enjoy the bounty.😊

I pulled all the beets two weeks ago. Yesterday I mowed over the weeds with a push mower and then used two different tillers to prep the area again. I used my Earthway seeder to plant more beets. We will see how these do.
