Spring 2025 plowing

Post by daytime dave » Sat May 03, 2025 10:56 am

I finished my plowing a week or so ago. I use my Farmall Cub mostly. This year the plow went on much easier. Just simple repetition I guess.

This year I put a sleeve hitch on the lifting system of my old Craftsman garden tractor. I put a plow on and adjusted it. Yes, you can plow with it, but I wouldn't want to plow much at my place. It probably would do really well on level soil with few rocks. But it did work, mostly.

After plowing, I use my small disc on the Mahindra to smooth it out.

I am ready to plant sweet corn as soon as the weather cooperates. This is the earliest I think I have ever gotten the corn plots and garden ready.

I know the feeling......I just finished planting my dove field.......14 acres of corn/sunflowers/brown top millet.....Need lots of rain now........Lots of seat time on the JD.

Not many Farmall Cubs-A's or 140's still working........We started out with a Cub years ago......Believe it had 14 HP..

This is a view of the North Pasture... we used to have it cut for hay. It's just ten acres or so and we had to have it cut in small round bales or square baled. Because of the pond and the creeks, they can't get the big equipment in here, and because it's such a small area, they don't want to travel far. The guy who used to cut it had equipment problems... his tractor died. He didn't tell us and Tina had to bush hog the field with the Hay Standing, then recut the hay on the ground to keep it from killing the pasture.

Since she couldn't find anyone else to do the small stuff, we just ordered a new piece of equipment for the tractor, a finish mower. We'll groom all the fields and make them look pretty. We'll still bushhog under the trees in the areas around the barns and the coops to keep the snakes down, and down the fence lines to keep them clear to access with the UTV to check them.

We like to keep things looking decent. The 6' finish mower should be here in a couple weeks.

You can tell a lot about the character of a man...
by the way he treats those who can do nothing for him.

I don't look back at the things I can no longer do, I just look forward to the things I still can.
