FTX BULLETS IN BBS 44 MAG

HAS ANYONE TRIED THE HORNADY 225FG FTX 44 MAG IN THEIR HENRY ACTION. I GET FEED PROBLEMS ABOUT EVERY 3RD ROUND.
CONTACTED HENRY SERVICE DEPT AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS DESIGN DUE TO POINTED POYMER TIP ADDING LENGTH AND SHARP BULLET POINT.
HP AND SP BULLETS FEED RELIABLY. WOULD LIKE TO USE HORNADY FTX BULLET FOR HUNTING. THEY RECOMMENDED THE NEW FEDERAL BULLET, FORGOT ITS NAME, NOT AVAILABLE YET.

Well first welcome to the Henry forums! Now I haven't tried those in my rifle but the whole idea of the Flex Point was to be able to use them in rifles since the pointed rubber tip would not set off a primer. The case on Flex Tip ammo is shorter than standard case length to allow for the tip length.
I have used the .45-70 version in my Marlin lever rifle with no feeding issues though.
If you have any calipers handy maybe take an COL measure and see it they are longer than 1.600-1.625.
How about the regular XTP bullet? Those feed fine in my Henry BBS carbine.

I believe the new Federal offerings you describe are known as the "Hammer Down" rounds.
Haven't tried them yet...

Yes, they are safe fore lever rifles as fortyshooter stated earlier. Yes I have used them in both Henry & Marlins chambered in 44 mag, 357 Mag & 30-30.
Have not had any feeding issues. I will say my Marlin 336's don't shoot (group) them well however. 357's & 44's no problems with accuracy.

The shorter case makes the brass less useful to a reloader, unless you use new flex bullets or just load up some milder.44 Special loads with normal bullets. For that reason alone, I personally will not try them. I don’t know if the Hammer Down brass is shorter...?

Maybe only 45-70 and 444 leverevolution brass is shorter than normal.

welcome indeed .... delighted to have you join our forum .... we have a BBS 44 Mag that is one heck of a shooter .... the good news is, there are a many good, different bullets out there to choose from .... tried them in our Henry 45-70 and wasn't impressed .... while I'm a Hornady fan, I will not use their FTX bullets .... we load our own ammo and our bullets of choice are Nosler JHP & SP's .... be sure to follow the link below and add your Henry to our community's total

I've used them in my .44 mag Marlin and they do just fine. It's a PITA to shorten the cases that much. When these run out I'm not getting them anymore. I get better groups out of the Nosler 240 gr.

I use the Hornady Leverevolution (FTX) 44 mag in my Big Boy Carbine and Mares Leg with no problems.

I got a couple hundred Leverevolution 225 grain and have shot about a hundred so far. They cycle through my BBS .44 carbine just fine.
They group pretty well, I think, but I ended up plinking with most of them. I looked into buying more but the price is a lot higher now.
They seem to burn pretty clean compared to some dirty ammo I've used. Cleaning was a breeze.
Edit: I think I will change back to the Remington 180 grain ammo from now on. It is more consistent, the Hornady seem to vary in velocity and they hit lower than any rounds I've tried in my rifle. The Remingtons pack a wallop and are pretty reliable, plus they function smooth as silk.
They are also about a quarter cheaper. (each, that is)
Remington invented the .44 mag, so they know how to roll some hot ones.

I have used the FTX's in 45 colt with no problems but you can add shorter cases to the list with 45 colt.

They work fine in my Marlin but not my favorite load. I won't be buying anymore.
